Perhaps I'm the one that misheard the video, but I thought he said 2". I agree that 2.5" is a nice brim width for a variety of folks. Perhaps one of the reasons why a hat like the Stratoliner became so popular.
I'll say though, even as somebody who eschews the particulars of the "rules," they...
That's the same video we've already been discussing. And I'm still quite confident that he's wrong about short guys and 2" brims.
Another thought occurred to me as well. Surely what looks "right" ebbed and flowed as fashion tastes changed through the decades, no? The average brim got shorter...
To each his own, and in fairness nobody should turn to me for sartorial advice; but, when @moontheloon said he wanted to start a YouTube channel i made the remark that he's far better suited for the task than the folks I've seen. I was primarily thinking of this dude.
Just my personal...
Royal is a felt quality designation, not a model name. Most model names are lost to history unless you can track down an old Stetson catalogue and match it up. Although ostensibly the models had names, most of them were not individually identified on the sweatband.
This one doesn't get worn ever, and I could use the space. Very clean Dobbs Stingy brim. The color is more blue in person. This is tagged 6 7/8, but I had it stretched (and reflanged) at Paul's Hat works here in SF with their machine which also stretches the crown, so no bulge at the ribbon, but...

Take a look at the campdrafts bow:

See the cloth covered button and thin string? That's the wind trolley, it's not very commonly used, and on some modern hats, is mostly decorative and not fully...
That would be close, but the hat in the picture has no wind trolley. It's impossible to say for certain, but to my eye, that brim looks 3" which would be more than the Campdraft, although admittedly the two would be very similar looking in width. But my sense is that hat has different...
Doesn't strike me immediately as an off the rack hat. Looks hand creased and I don't know if many hats with those specs. 3" is not a super common brim width .
Looks a lot like the Alpine Mist from Black Sheep:

Maybe check Melegari too... reimporting a Borso seems like it shouldn't be the cheaper option.

If we're really gonna stick with the car analogy, $300 isn't getting you into Aston Martin territory. Maybe Acura.
Suffice to say, I already mentioned three custom hatters in this thread which offer rabbit felt sub $300. Art Fawcett/VS Hats, Bob Jessee/Black Sheep Hatworks, Tim Mahovich/Alley...
Ok, I found the 2016 catalog on an old Kindle tablet I had laying around. It shows the Stetsonian in Caribou, Black, Light Grey, and Mink.
Forum won't let me upload it....
If it is a Stetson, it's not in the current catalogue, so you're SOL if you're again trying to find the exact hat.
Well, technically we're talking about the hat he used to wear.
