Yes, there have been mornings and evenings when it has still been possible to wear WPs. I have worn mainly Navy, Black and Grey but Olive (Army) earlier today.
I already look forward to autumn leaves, softer light and good all-day sweater weather.
Eric,
I am really impressed that you were in a skiing team - and that you wore Dale sweaters as part of your uniform!
My interest in Norwegian sweaters hasn’t been ‘awakened’ but re-awakened. In other words it’s always been there and I have worn them since I was a boy but it’s stronger now. I...
I have had a couple of emails from OKW offering 50% reductions on lines that are being discontinued. It is a shame to see that they are discontinuing the Rothley version of the WP with suede patches. I have one of them, in Peat Brown. It is bulkier and longer than the standard WP and although I...
I love all of these especially the photos where you are posing with them in the snow. I’ll send you a few snaps of mine when I get to them again (they are 80 miles away and we’re under lockdown as you are) and when I buy a new one (or more!) in the Fall.
Best,
Aidan
Hi Eric,
Wow! Thank you for your two amazing posts which I loved reading and viewing. I totally agree with you about the smell of the lanolin and wool and the smell of these sweaters is certainly one of the things that attracts me. I associate them with the outdoors, hiking, camping and rugged...
Gentlemen,
My interest in Norwegian wool sweaters has very much been reawakened by the 'Scandi Noir' thriller 'Twin' currently being shown on BBC television and set in northern Norway. Several of the men wear these sweaters and look great. I have worn a lot of them over the years and have two...
Daffodils or 'Easterbells' in this country are seen as signifiers of winter giving way to spring. You will hear English weather forecasters proclaim in their faux-plebeian accents that there have been 'sightings' of daffodils and there is the expectation that everyone will jump up and down and...
I associate this type of sweater with the Army in World War II and into the 1950s/Korean War era and through to the mid-1960s. It was as Steve has said more a brown or Khaki colour (there was a black version as well I think) and the string was for practical rather than decorative purpose. This...
Very nice!!!
As you might know if you have followed this thread, I already have a ridiculous number of military related wool sweaters. However - I am interested in adding this one so please could you remind me of the website address?
OKW have today launched a 'Bond Sweater', based on the new movie: essentially their World War 2 version of the WP in Navy, with shoulder and elbow patches. I shall certainly consider adding it to my collection.
Returning to the seasonal theme, I was speaking on the 'phone to an old friend in another part of the country a week or so ago and, being a keen gardener, he told me in tones of crazed, early spring-induced excitement that 'the daffodils are out now'. 'I hate daffodils,' I replied deadpan, and...
Good wishes to all affected by the floods. Wore Army WP yesterday and black ‘Sou’West chunkie’ fisherman’s sweater today.
I note that there’s a new 15% off offer from OKW.
