I love Value Village! I got my soft bonnet dryer there for $5.99. I also got a table mounted Singer Spartan sewing machine for $14.99. It wasn't in great shape, but I just finished fixing it up this week. It's shiny like a new penny, and sews wonderfully.
I feel like a lot of problems we are facing today (health and social issues) can be helped by strong and fuctional family units. Being home for supper and cooking hearty meals, packing healthy lunches, kissing boobooos, playing red rover, teaching manners and kindness helps kids grow up to be...
I'm using prefolds with covers. It's not bad. I know my grandma had two-three kids in cloth at one time and they didn't have a washing machine. I don't know how she did it.
I am a stay at home mom. I have a 10 month old daughter, Valentine. I'm thankful I've had the chance to take care of her, and my husband and my home. But I feel so isolated. I have a degree and I am looking for a full-time 'career'. I feel like I need to get out of the house and make my own...
Cheap Pharmacy Brand Matte Lipstick!!!
I bought the "In the Red" a few weeks ago but it was too dark. I loved that it was matte so when I found it at WalMart for ~$7, I bought the "Really Red". It's perfect! I was looking for the display and I was freaking out because I couldn't find it...
What's wrong with your sewing machine? What is it doing or not doing that's bad? What kind of machine do you have? I just fixed my Singer Spartan; the feed dogs just needed to be lowered. And I fixed an old treadle sewing machine; that one just needed a bit of love.
It looks like there is a bit of slack near the armpit area, like a crease. Have you tried shoulder pads? That might do the trick. Great job resizing the pattern!
This is so funny. I've always thought of my sewing projects in terms of wardrobe, mixing and matching pieces. I haven't made any elaborate plans or schemes yet. I think it's time to consolidate some yardage. You could even cut out your pattern pieces factory style, on more than one layer of...
Scalloped overlay
The Christening dress I am making has a scalloped overlay. I don't know how to place my pattern pieces along the scalloped edge when I cut them. Should the lowest part of the scallop line up with the pattern piece or the highest? Or should I just aim for the middle...
Hehe, like this?
And on the topic of hair products. I find using lot's of hairspray, and pomade to tame fly-aways, makes my hair fall faster. The less products I use, the longer my curls last. I don't have to wash as often and my hair is lighter.
The silk scarf would definitely help, but I think you need to experiment with your setting method. My hair also falls pretty quickly when I use hot rollers. Have you tried doing a wet set? Wet sets are the longest lasting for me. Everyone's hair is different of course. Do you know how the...
I have been at this diet now for 12 days. I have started taking vitamins, and omega-3 supplements. My skin hasn't changed. My skin was at it's best when I ate the most fruits and vegetables. I'll try focusing on eating fruits and veggies, rather than not eating refined carbs, refined sugars...
Have you ever tried a steamer? Maybe if you hang it up nicely on a towel rack, and then take a super hot ultra steamy shower. That's got to be the most relaxing way.
The ones that were done away with... :(
I live in a small town. It's very rare for me to find good vintage anything. Well, a co-worker of a friend has an attic full of vintage sewing stuff. They are giving me a treadle sewing machine. Score! The machine is ca. 1901 and the owner kept a log...
I think the satin is silk. I know it was not synthetic and it wasn't cheap. I don't anticipate ever having to wash it once it's made. It's for a Christening gown for my daughter. It will have a beautiful net overlay with ecru flowers and green leaves and vines. I'm hoping I can finish it...
I think I would use a flannel.
I am sewing with a medium weight bridal satin. Should I wash it before I cut out the pieces or no? Can I iron it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Laura - I'm pretty sure my acne is hormonal. I have used Diane-35 with wonderful results. I just can't afford it right now. I found this website which I find interesting, http://www.absoluteacneinfo.com/. The problem with these websites is you don't know where they are getting their...
