close shave for the unwary shopper

So there I am in one of my regular welfare shops after a few weeks away; they've changed the whole layout, and the hatrack is gone. As I look around I spy a basket with some very scruffy lids in it, but as I approach, a barefoot woman cuts me off and grabs this very dusty and scruffy Akubra...

Just love RM Williams outback boots!

depends on where you want to wear them If you want them for dress wear that doesn't involve too much walking, the famous Stockman range are regarded as classics, but for general getting about probably better to stick with a Craftsman, there are two things to consider for an American though 1...

    Feed sacks, who knew???

woof yeah I suppose they do smell a bit, but the heavy weave definitely makes them waterproof, discomfort is relative I suppose, a plastic bag would be atrocious to work in, but I've seen it done.

    Feed sacks, who knew???

spud bag When I was a kid we used to make raincoats out of spud bags by pushing one corner into the other to make a sort of monk's cowl lookin thing, very effective, I still do it now when I have to do heavy work in the rain on the farm and would sweat too much in a Drizabone.

Don't shun... embrace the corduroy suit.

pull the cord roy About a year ago I had a bit of a run on corduroy jackets, they were suddenly hip it seemed, so I stocked up, and all of a sudden I'm stuck with 5 of them that I can't move...bloody fads, luckily I figured that the suits would be too much in this climate anyway so I wasn't...

Favorite Sinatra Tune/Film - Remembering Sinatra 10 Years After His Passing

THIS TOWN Billy May's bombastic stomping arrangement of this little-known Sinatra classic puts it way ahead of my other fave Summer Wind when the money's really counted. The version Nancy does on her live album is not an issue..although I love her stuff with Lee Hazlewood, another giant...

    Reenacting the Warsaw Uprising?

true story from Poland I used to work with an old Polish guy in London in the 70's, it was cold one day, and I said so. He laughed..."you know what cold is? You hit a tree with an axe, the head shatters, and a piece of steel goes right through the eye of the man beside you, and he falls dead in...

    Exchange Rate?

the dumps I'm buying NOTHING NADA ZIP from overseas at the moment, as our dollar is in the toilet, it has been dumped by speculators and hedge funds to the extent that it's lost over 30% in 3 months against the USD and GBP, even though our economy has none of the structural problems of either...

    Favorite Military Quotes

an oldie but goodie Often seen on the t-shirts of those who've never actually fought anybody who can fight back is the supposed Green Berets motto "kill 'em all let God sort 'em out", I don't know if it is actually theirs, (one would hope not), but it's a lot older than that. In 1209, during...
