Maybe it's the Polish in me... or maybe it's just the desire to back the underdog... But I would love to find out when and where they have this event!!

Maybe they'll let us have an uprising in Rockford this year???

The 4th one was my favorite; it was put together very nicely. I think it is amazing to actually see what happened.
It makes one realize that the people in the uprising and all the battles of WWII were real
and they were willing to die for what they believed in.
These videos truly bring the history to life.

Thanks for posting those Sir!

It makes you realise what brave and heroic people they were.

So badly let down to..by all the Allies, Russian and Western..... Not our finest hour.

There was a piece recently in the Guardian newspaper on a female Uprising volunteer (on an overall article about immigrants to the UK) who emigrated to the UK after the war, and her story. Truly inspiring, and utterly heartbreaking.

The film, The Pianist, has some good reenacting of the Uprising, and the mercilessness it was put down with.

very cool stuff.. i wish i was there!

one thing is to watch a movie or read a book.. but to be those spectators watching the reenactment must really hit home. very cool.

The Pianist is one of my favorite movies. What he lived through was absolutely horrifying; he was such a brave person.

This is not Warsaw Ghetto Uprising reenactment, but Warsaw Uprising reenactment. Two different things, two different uprisings, same devastating effect on the people and the city. Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was in 1943, Warsaw Uprising was in 1944.

Funny I was just talking to a Pole at work about this last week. I will direct him to the videos. Was this being filmed for a Movie or just a "Public Show" ?
It is quite extensive, well done and costly. Just the cost of blanks make it very expensive. Like most guys my age we grew up with "Polock" jokes why Polock I never understood. Maybe it was funny in other parts of the US and brought to CA. The more I read about WWII the more I read about how fierce the Poles were. In allied uniforms the Germans were terrified of them. It was brought up in movies like "Hell is for Heroes" and "Battle of Britian". Books like
"To Hell and Back" and "Devils in Baggy Pants" also mentioned the ferocity of the Polish Warrior.

Warsaw Ghetto Uprising reenacttment

There was plan by some reenactment groups to reenact some fights of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising this year but it was dismissed and cancelled by the city and jewish organizations as inapropriate since the Uprising was such a terrible manslaughter and tragedy. I think they had a point.

I remember...

My grandfather and his brothers were actually going to return to Poland from the US when Germany and Russia started their invasion. Their mother would not allow it, since my great-grandfather was bedridden and the boys had to make the money for the family food and rent. The oldest was 17 years old at the time.. My grandfather was the only one who finished school, only to be drafted years later

Apparently the boys kept saving their money to return to Poland and help move family of whom they never heard from or saw again, all the way until they each got drafted.

BTW: is there a site for the event or the reenactment? Is there a group who organizes it or a point of contact??

I'll PM you.

In the end, yes. But the ZOB (Jewish Fighting Organization, led by Mordecai Anielewicz, one of my personal heroes) held off the Germans for longer than the entire Polish Army. The ZOB was quite successful in the opening skirmishes of the uprising. I think these could be tastefully re-enacted--after all, who doesn't want to see the Waffen SS get trounced by a bunch of self-armed Jewish civilians?

See the film Uprising for more information.

I hope to push for an uprising scenario for next year at Midway WWII in Rockford IL.

Wish the town was a bit larger, but it could easily be done!!

One Too Many
true story from Poland

I used to work with an old Polish guy in London in the 70's, it was cold one day, and I said so. He laughed..."you know what cold is? You hit a tree with an axe, the head shatters, and a piece of steel goes right through the eye of the man beside you, and he falls dead in the snow...." OK, I said " where was this? "Siberia"
He had fought the Russians in the East when Hitler invaded from the west, been captured, and spent the best part of 2 years in a camp there until Barbarossa, when the Soviets opened the gate and said " you are on our side again"
Then he and a few more Poles walked, WALKED to India, which took another couple of years or so, he joined the British Army in India, I don't know whether or not he was torpedoed on the way back or not, probably, then landed with the British on D-Day and fought right through that show until the end of the war,but never managed to fight his way home. This was a long time before Solidarnoscz etc, so he was stuck in London, too scared to go back,.....nice guy, amazing life story, but just one of millions like it.....today people tear their hair out and the world is coming to an end because they can't pay off their widescreen TV.
A different generation for sure.
