the guide
I can't believe you guys are wearing plastic under the sweatband, but maybe it's not a problem in cold climates, the done thing here, and has been since time immemorial, is to fold up a page of the form guide and use that, the number of of old hats I find with that done is amazing...
Yesterday I took a tour through some of the less salubrious industrial suburbs of the city to my North, places where even the babies have tattoos, and came up trumps, 4 Akubras and a Henry Heath, all for $40 Australian total,
the HH is interesting, I don't know the brand at all, and it's in...
Fonder of Ford
Saw 'The Fugitive' here on TV last week, lots of Ford trademarks but it veered from the original story, and Fonda was more a saintly figure than a flawed one, with lots of cheesy 'halo' lighting. Some very nice stark B/W scenes though. And to forestall arguments, the book/film...
get down
I just watched DOWN BY LAW after 20 years or so...what was all the fuss about, it had nothing going for it but Tom Waits's shoes, the acting was appalling, the story non-existent, or more accurately, went nowhere, and is Benigni the Italian word for annoying? I can't believe the hoopla...
Various Darius
I hate to be a pedant, but Iranians most definitely aren't Arabs, and any Farsi speaker would be outraged to be addressed as such, they don't get on at all, vis-a-vis the first Gulf War, in which about a million were killed, America backed Saddam in that one as I recall, but...
yob?
My dear chap, yobbo is an English expression, the correct term in these latitudes is "bogan juice", the condition known as 'troppo' can also be attributed to the excessive consumption of Bundy rum...it has a legendary and well-deserved reputation, the fellow in this story was under the...
make do
If it's at all salvageable, then it'll respond to some basic treatment: I've got one that once looked worse than that,
just clean it with vinegar, give it a good soaking with neatsfoot oil, and leave it in the sun for a couple of weeks, that might be enough to get it back to a wearable...
Found this at an auction last week, and grabbed it even though I'm not a bike rider, the badge from the TT races is dated 1986, but how old is the jacket? I see 'vintage' Belstaffs going for huge amounts on ebay, was this worth getting? The zip is a bulky black YKK. size is about 42 so it fits...
dillboard
Nothing makes me laugh as much as what I call "billabong man": someone wearing clothes covered in logos, I mean people actually pay for T-shirts with beer labels on them! If a company wants me to be a billboard for them, they can give me the stuff for nothing to begin with...are you...
Tactics?
I read a dissertation on Zhukov that analysed his actual generalship in the battles of Khalkin Gol against the Japanese, and basically his tactics weren't much more sophisticated that Haig in WW1, he just had more troops and considered them expendable. His ruthlessness towards his own...
So there I am sitting on my stall at the markets, business is OK, three hats and several hawaiian shirts have gone to appreciative customers at good prices, when the guy from the stall next door comes over, and says he's been after a new hat for a while and he just sold some stuff so he's cashed...
watch it
Be VERY careful when steaming that it doesn't wrinkle the sweatband, if it does, it's done for and has to be replaced, I've even seen this happen in a hat shop when someone wasn't attentive enough, I prefer warm water myself.
it's de size that matters
The Indian Prime Minister you think of was Morarji Desai, and our PM of the time, the witty Gough Whitlam, famously quipped when the Indian PM was late for some State meeting; "he must have been on the piss again", which might puzzle Americans, but is quite funny to...
stop pissing about
As any soldier or bushman should know, urine is sterile, and can be used safely to wash instruments you might need for serious first aid, it also toughens the feet when sloshed in your boots before a march, and will do the same to your hands if you have some digging to...
memories... like the corners filled with grime :-)
I used to go to Biba's in the 70's when I lived in London just to check out the babes hangin round on a Saturday,
