I have here a pocket (literally) guide to suit care that includes your fabric and measurements as provided by Sears Roebuck and company stamp dated 1946 with a printing date of 10-21-42. I find the list of options available especially interesting, including zipper fly and hand done button...
Yes.....and the weather sucks so it won the "will you wear me today"contest....It is a pre-Stetson, likely wartime production as it has an unreeded sweat. Over 75 years of honest wear....... It is quite the hat and in it's condition make a "I don't care" statement which I like......;)
Today my modern Whippet (on left) or if it gets too bad out (heavy rain, snow, wind, sleet.... it IS Illinois in the Spring after all), my 40's beat to hell, Whippet like Mallory.......(on right).
Circa 1915, German Poster Stamps.....First two allow the hatter to stamp their information, the third according to google translate (which does not always account for 100 year old language differances very well) is for Brown's Discount Market and advertises their Top Hats and indicates "you are...

Re-order tags should tell the tale for a closer guesstimate.....

The hat is in a nice light dusty grey with matching ribbon and binding. It has a Brown 2" sweat (with oilskin "protector" behind) that is quite nice...
The first and usual cause of hat shrinkage is not in fact the felt, but the leather sweat. Leather is quite sensitive to heat (and well...getting wet and subjected to salt from our perspiration, and drastic temperature changes),
