Ironically I am working on a planters hat myself.....an old Stetson 3X with just over 3 1/2" Bound brim...I finished the pork pie crown and then it sat around a while..........I have picked out my ribbon choice just this past week.....now I just need to sit down and sew it...

You have a tough nut there......I can almost 100 percent say the bath will not get it out......may even accentuate it more......you need a color/ filler powder (aka: pouncing powder/finishing powder) to work into the felt to even the color....especially after the bath.
