The only Indy hat I want now is a one of the new Herbert Johnson reissues. There are still some skeptics, but I look at that hat and I see the hat. I want one even though the Raiders hat isn't my favorite Indy lid and even though I really don't need any more brown hats.....

There are lots of fabric sellers on Etsy who will sell you a yard for decently cheap. Personally, I was looking at Japanese textiles (lots of cool kimono fabrics), but you can find all sorts of brocade fabrics as well.

we live in a world where some folks will pay more than 1k for a lower quality Fouquet lid and Optimo sells enough $750 hats that they now have a factory. Somebody out there would be willing to spend that for a vintage Stetson.

It's very well possible he did and his kids are still sitting on a closet full of hats. Only a small selection was auctioned off, and those included some hats that had no clear manufacturer marks.
In fairness to Baron, I have seen it said that they made hats for Wayne in places like the LA...
Past iterations of Baron's site have claimed an association (e.g. "shaped with one of Wayne's original blocks"). But Baron also claims a lot of things that can't always be substantiated (like their supposed connection to Indiana Jones).
