This hat? I the Fed IV is probably not the best match. This one is slightly smaller all around (brim width: certainly, crown height: likely) and more tapered on the sides. Also, 2" ribbon. -

Playboy mid grey, sage ribbon, unlined. Sold out of Kooi Knapper Men's Wear in Kalamazoo, MI. The store was a part of the Kalamazoo mall, at the time of its opening in 1959, it was the first outdoor pedestrian mall in the U.S., although the store itself seems to have been open since 1947. -

Great idea for a thread! Junior Cowboy H. Kauffman was a longstanding saddlery in NYC, originally opening in 1875. The Times has a 1975 article with some more background on the shop as it celebrated its centennial. -

It's the hat version of a vestigial organ. Early hats had a ribbon which you could use to cinch the sweatband to make seizing adjustments. It sometimes appears in a purely decorative form in later hats like my 100: I believe there are one or two functional examples floating around the lounge... -

7 3/8 Early Stetson 1x nutria
I certainly don't have the cash, but for those who do, $1250 is darn good price in a world with $1000 Fouquet hats and $1195 Optimo heirloom felts. This is one of the most stunning vintage examples I've seen.- jlee562
