If the urge is that strong, I'd wager Bob at Black Sheep would be up to the hand dying challenge. The first hat he did for me is a hand dyed oxblood that's not that many shades away from the original black cherry.
thanks for the kind comments, gents. It was a real stroke of luck to get the complete 100 set for the price I paid. It's one of the stiffer 60's ones, but still finely finished. Special thanks to @mayserwegener for kindly sending me the Stetson initial badges some while back. It's just a bit of...
Happy thanksgiving to my fellow U.S. based loungers.
Catching some last minute stragglers at the flower shop before heading over to my mom's. Helping Jack out with some Stetson 100 insert measurements, so I figured I'd just wear this one today too.
Be safe in all your pre and post holiday...
Ha!
I still want to see the appraisals! I want to know where to get a hat appraiser job. Not that I am qualified in any way, especially compared to the hat knowledge here, but I at least know more than the person who thinks the hat in question is a "first generation" Borsalino .
I mean, in as much as a black Borsalino is "a thing" to a certain segment of people ::cough::Brooklynhipsters::cough::, it's maybe slightly more desirable than any other modern Borsalino. But a 6 3/4? Yeah....good luck finding a kid with that much money for your hat. And as I said earlier, I...

Oh, do please list the names of these "luxury hat outfitters" and their "appraisers."
Borsalino is on the verge of Bankruptcy, and has been for quite some time, so I don't know what kind of crack "research" team they have over there...
well, if you head on over to the Borsalino Brotherhood thread, you can see all the pictures of my hat.
Fwiw:
...because, as I said, that's in EVERY Borsalino hat.
your hat has a leather sweatband, like most hats do. If you think that's 14k gold, I have a bridge to sell you.
No, your size tag is a sticker, which is not found in old hats.
the most likely explanation for your hat is that it is a retailer exclusive. All modern hat companies have done this for various retail outlets and these variants don't show up in published catalogs. Both JJ Hat Center and...
Im sorry you feel that I'm not giving you legit information. But as I said, if you familiarize yourself with the Borsalino Brotherhood thread, you would see why your assumptions are misguided.
Here's one of my Italian market Borsos.
you can see the paper tag with punti sizing, the oil skin...
If you spend even ten minutes in the Borsalino Brotherhood thread, you can see for yourself.
Nothing about your hat indicates that it is significantly old. Among such indications: black leather sweatband (more common in Borso than US brands, but black sweats almost always show up post war)...
Doesn't strike me as particularly old.
That hat shop still exists, maybe someone there remembers around what time that model was produced.

I like a cap with medium fullness, although I do have a low profile ivy cap as in the OP.
My go to cap is this Harris tweed number from Wigens, a Swedish company. I really like the weight of the Harris tweed fabric.
I second @belfastboy for site recommendations, as well as Delmonico linked...
