I am not sure what someone's height has to do with how good a halfbelt looks except that taller people show off clothing better or maybe just look better. i am 5'6" and I don't have any problem with the fit of my 30's half belt relative to any other styles. Now torso to leg proportion might...
Furrowson, I don't know where you live, but if really cold weather is a concern, put the samples in the freezer for half an hour and see how they react. CXL stiffens more than most.
Or like Rocketeer said, don't worry about it.
How dark is your oil pull sample? I was a little disappointed that mine was so dark. I really would like a mid-brown. I am told the batches can differ and that you can request darker or lighter hides, but I wonder wha is typical.
It is less water resistant than CXL for certain. The leather absorbs the water. I have had jackets of unprotected leather before and got them soaked through 10 or more times with no bad results. The oils in the leather protect it. Just let it dry narturally. But no, it isn't very...
If you are in the UK and want a Highwayman fit jacket, couldn't you just order a stock jacket from Aero, make note of the modifications needed, return it and order one made-to-measure?
The current oil pull in use at Aero doesn't seem to scuff much. It seems to be dyed through more than most leathers and perhaps that is why. Now the Shackleton leather scuffs easily and noticeably but that is battered steer.
By the sample I have, I would guess about 2.5 oz thickness, which i think is something like 1.1 mm. Samples are hard to judge by as they represent such a small part of the whole hide. Definitely in Aero's medium weight category.
Aero used to have a heavier, thicker oil pull which I thought...
The waistcoat is odd but it doesn't bother me since if I need to use it for warmth, the jacket would be closed anyway.
I would also drop the fur collar, which looks nice in pictures but isn't my style.
The most exciting thing to me is that Aero has a single breasted Barnstormer.
I have a sample, that's all. I beat it up, twisted it,. soaked it and all that. I liked what I saw. It looks great both brand new and broken in. The slightly oily and matte look really makes it attractive. Besides, the break in period will be nearly non existent.
CXL doesn't look great...
Has anyone ordered this yet or even better, has anyone received one yet? I like the idea of a single breasted Barnstormer as double breasted is just a bit too much and a pain to wear since you need to leave it buttoned up. This one looks almost as good and is more practical.
What is really...
I have found Aero has a strange way of measuring. I never quite get the same numbers as they do. I went with the fit jacket through Thurston Brothers rather than going at it on my own so I made out ok.
I have some leather samples from Pegasus and the new horsehide is one of my favorites. It is very thick but still light in weight. The car coat looks great.
I could easily wear it with a few modifications. Take the big unsightly zipper away, flatten the pockets, shorten it,...oh never mind!
I'll take a standard looking barnstormer.
Hi Carrie,
Are those pictures of the battered seal hide accurate in tone? I am just wondering if the battered seal is different from what is usually termed dark seal? Also, are you able to tell me how different the battered seal is from the CXL brown horsehide in color? I never trust my...
