Craig,
If the project re. the Irvin Label was " The Ultimate Irvin Repro" piece worked up by Will Lauder and a number of others ( including some prominant FLers) then the label design selected was much more in keeping with the original label with the crown and " Air Ministry" lettering ... in...
That's a nice jacket ... not my taste ... but a nice well made jacket. It ISNT a repro IRVIN however, but it is in keeping with current fashion trends.
There are loads of "sort of" IRVINS .... WPG, AERO, AL and others make "sort of" IRVINS and there's a clear market for them. ... in fact I'd...
I have had 4 jackets wear through at the lower sides and back due to wear on Alpaca and Tartan linings ( one Californian, 2 Halfbelts and a Highwayman) on beltloops .. these have all been second hand ( except the Californian) so I conclude that it IS an issue. I've also has an amazing oil-pull...
I am in a similar quandry to Fanch .... a pair of modern levis 501's (34 x 30) which actually measure 36 x 30 fit quite trim in the leg and a little loose in the waist ( just like I like them ) .... 1954 501XX shrink to fit 36 X 34are almost perfect after a wash or two. Real waist at belly...
I violently Agree :)
It's up to the manufacturer to define the level of customisation on offer .... and those that offer no customisation ( off the peg) will attract a certain customer. Those that offer total customisation will attract a different customer ( or perhaps the same customer with...
I'm not sure anyone was suggesting putting an idiot in charge of product development ...... but offering reasonable customisation was a real plus for me ! I've yet to find an organisation which failed because it offered exactly what their target customer wanted ................... unless they...
Really .................. they're not really listening to customers either one could argue :)
If I'm dropping a chunk of change on a serious jacket ... I WANT it to be custom ! I want it to be a little unique and I want it to be a little different. I want some sound advice and direction...
Having lived in Cleveland ( which is not a kick in the arse different from NYC climate wise really ... in fact might be a little colder) I'd happily reccoment a sheepskin lined Aero .... but they do look a bit "puffa" !
I have a sheepskin lined Aero Long Half Belt and it ROCKS ( it's like...
The "shallow V" yoke .. is quiniessentially Highwayman IMHO and I've had a few :D .... never had a one piece back Aero other than an A-2 so would like to know how it looks, feels or fits.
Is this an option or is it the new design ? It's such a fundamental change after all .. it will...
Have to agree ... But then I have had GREAT jackets from many ( Aero, Eastman, Schott, Bill Kelso, Alexander's, Legendary USA, Lost Worlds and also many vintage original manufacturers ) ... I've even had one of JC's A2's.
Some I liked and some I didn't .... But I don't think I have actively...
I'm not a big fan of the A-2 ( unusually for here) ... and elastic bootm and cuff jackets in general ... with the possible exception of the USN single weave jackets ( and even then it's a love hate thing). So for that reason and the reasons of stylistic preference I'd go Luftwaffe. The Eastman...
It's approx one to one 1/2 size down on the VDR
This is not a bad thing IMHO as the VDR was always an oversize jacket where in order to get a good fit I had to order a 40. Length is the same as a 42 Aero VDR ( which I have 2 of for comparison) and most of the measurements are +\- 1/2 "
No .. here's my new jacket ... don't tell me it doesn't fit ( cause it does) ... and don't use it or my thread as an excuse to bash it's makers ( because it isn't about them )!
But then HD why let the truth get in the way of a good story huh !!!!!!
