I agree with Paul. I have a US Authentic A2, which is quite thick and heavy - and sometimes wearing it can be a bit fatiguing after a long time. There's a big hoopla over "tough thick manly jackets" but if it's so thick you don't want to wear it - what's the point? So my next jacket was a medium...
I see what you mean. It could be that when I think of a person wearing an A2 - i think of a skinny young man in an old photo or newsreel. But most people today think of an A2 as a puffy mall jacket worn by a (if you'll pardon me) chubby old geezer. People associate an article of clothing with...
About the A2 lookin "geezer". Let's look at the facts.
Last time I checked the average age of an American flyer during WW2 was 19 - that's fairly young in my book. Last time I checked the average age of the people on this forum is somewhere in the 40s.
Col Don Blakeslee took over an entire...
So how does that compare to Hanoi? I seemed to get an overall positive response - but then I'm more understated. Further south in Vietnam I wager the weather is too warm to wear a jacket except for on a few days of the year.
I can't comment on Aero because I don't own one. But I do own a stock USAuthentic A2. I've had it for 2 years, done all sorts of activities in it, even crashing my motorcycle in it, and the construction is solid as the day I bought it. The zipper and snaps work flawlessly, not one loose stitch...
Maybe it's his belief in Eugenics, and the hideous fruit that this pseudoscience bore in 1941 that have turned me off to Holmes. Forced sterilizations, restriction of interracial marriage etc. Note, the Nazis loved him and used him as justification for their dirty deeds, because guys like Holmes...
It could be the demographics that is the biggest issue with the reactions. When I lived in Minneapolis I was always in collared shirts, fedoras, overcoats, blazers and a pipe. I usually got compliments, or maybe just an odd glance. Maybe I just got mistaken for a hipster in urban areas, yet...
That depends on what summer is like where you live, and what your heat tolerance is. I can wear my A2 with a T shirt in 24C, if it's cloudy and I'm not doing a lot of exercise. But usually I don't use it till it gets to 21C because then I can wear it with a long-sleeve shirt without sweating...
I am impressed, a good many of your jackets look almost too good to be original and seem to have been only moderately used. The CBI is a rare gem, and the bomber art on the back panels of a few of those is quite nice too. You're a one man WW2 aviator clothing museum.
Thanks for showing us all...
Sanskrit - well I read it not speak it,
Hindi - two years in college but I forgot most of it
Vietnamese - trying but not much past the basic conversational small talk.
I have not had any deep scores on my buffalo hide, but there are a number of surface marks. The sort of marking you get on suede where it changes the lay of the fibers. I haven't been able to rub them out yet, but I haven't really tried too hard.
From my own personal observation - I'd say...
True true. I drive along the beach and into the mountains - it's alot of fun and I can't believe I could have such a good time on a bike that cost less than an i-phone.
Check out my wordpress blog for pictures from road-trips.
I have a jacket in w-buffalo, and one in HH. I would say the buffalo is thick and therefore tough. It is bendable and has a flex that the horse doesn't. But buffalo is not nearly as abrasion resistant as horse. It's surface is matte and soft - like lambskin. I would trust buffalo to protect my...
For me, 2012 was a great year, I had a great job in a wonderful country with a standard of living I couldn't hope for in the USA. I hope 2013 will be just as rewarding.
This bike will be tiny compared to most on this thread. I live in Vietnam, and the engine restrictions limit bikes to 175cc. So I have about as big as I can get - a 150cc. I call it a "mini cruiser" but because most people in this country drive 90cc scooters - the locals think it's huge...
tough question:
of the WW2 group I think I like the f4u, maybe that's too easy a choice. The long nose and gull wings give it that special something. Besides, it was in the inventory all the way through the 1950s.
I had the chance to sit in an f4U5N, but that is as close as I think I'll ever...
