Hi folks, living in Vietnam has led me to wonder about a few things:
1. Let's hear from those Loungers in the East - Japan to Singapore, Mongolia to India - what has your experience been like where you live? What deals on clothes, vehicles and accessories does living in your country afford you...
I remember June in Stirling - it was 12C and raining.
Our winter here was short and warm, we only got down to 19C a few times, now we're getting into 34C and it will be getting warmer. This puts the stop on most of my jackets and suit wearing. In Hanoi, I could wear that sort of stuff for 4...
It's a tough recommendation to think of one material for both bike riding and working. If you want a leather for working in, I'd recommend a medium weight horse or steer - any thick leather will really tire you out, especially your shoulders and inner elbows. If you get a medium weight hide on...
From what I read on the website, the Orient Express still does trips in Europe, but from what I could see - they do not do the traditional Vienna to Istanbul run. Can someone confirm or correct this??
Maybe living in south east Asia makes me a bit biased but I think this region of the world has the best food in general. My favorites in order of best are:
Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese.
These have so much flavor and provided the cook leaves out the MSG, they can be quite healthy.
My least...
Wow! Do you have an entire room dedicated to your clothes? I always used to tease my lady-friends because they had 30 or 40 pairs of shoes - I can't say to them that guys don't do that sort of thing any more I guess. ;)
But I suppose those of us from the Lounge are cut from a different...
Hi folks, I've got a few shots of a linen suit I had made here in Vietnam. The linen is a great quality, but I feel like the chest and shoulders are a bit over-built. Well - I'll try a more slight and relaxed look next time.
The picture was taken in the 17th century riverside town called Hoi...
Yea, we are a bit sharp sometimes. Sometimes it can be over the top, but it's so easy to go after the average schmuck who thinks he's the cat's-meow because he got an over-priced piece of junk from some big name fashion label. I suppose that is fairly low hanging fruit though.
Goodness, that is bite-the-back-of-your-hand beautiful! If I had that here - there's a palm-lined beach road near my house to drive it on everyday. That is only after I pay the 200% import tax to get the car off the ship of course. Looks like I'll just have to stick with my motorcycle for now.
I like the suit, I used to have one like that in dark blue, you've inspired me to look into getting another one made.
As far as my life, getting inexpensive suits made in the far east has been great - because I live there. But many tailors don't understand the wherefore of a suit's...
You might want to consider a B6, it is like a D1, but it has some interesting features like a bi-swing back for more ease of movement, and tabs on the waist to snug it up and slim down the fit. The B6 is not has heavy as the B3, but I think it is more ergonomic. Jut my opinion..
Living in Asia is a mixed bag. I have found honest and competent people who will do what I want as long as I am very clear about the details and don't just assume they know what I want.
But I've had some people make absolute crap, that I could barely squeeze myself into. Once it's done...
One thing you can do is make some new friends around a common interest. When I lived in Minneapolis, there were enough interesting and eclectic people there that allowed me to indulge my vintage weirdness and have company. Make friends through swing and jazz dance lessons, this should be able to...
Don't worry Eddie, there's no way I'd bring anything bearing the nationalist flag into the PRC. I've lived long enough in the far east to know that this would be ill-advised. The most I would do would be to wear my unmarked A2.
I used to read everything I could find on these guys. Now that I live in their neck of the woods, I really should do my own AVG tour, going to places in Burma, and visiting Kunming. Shoot, I can get to Kunming by bus. Does anyone know if there are AVG related sites or museums in China?
I'm...
Why is it not good to reuse and old thread? I don't see what the problem is. Isn't it better to reuse an old thread about one topic than to have 5 new threads about the same thing? Avoid redundancy. After all, how many threads do we have about "check out my new jacket" when we could just have...
After owning two leather jackets with a plain back, I think my next one will have a bi-swing back - if possible. A plain back looks good if it's cut just right, but then it is a bit restrictive. If it isn't restrictive, then it looks too baggy. The pleats seem to make things more ergonomic.
This is a tough question. My favorite suit now is a light tan linen suit with 2 buttons, peak lapel, single vent, belted back, and three patch pockets. It's like something I'd see in this part of the world in the golden era, and people compliment me quite a lot on it.
My favorite suit I ever...
I've got a US Authentic A2, had it for just over 2 years, and it is quite good. I would say they are quite heavy, a bit long - even for a tall guy like me. Over time it's developed some good lines and has softened up somewhat. So far, no fraying on the jerseys and no problems with the zipper. I...
