It's CXL Steer ..... the colour is Burgundy ( very close to Cordovan ) and it has weathered very well ..... price and availabillity were the deciders .. it was imediately available and at a GREAT price :D
One more pic to show hiow soft the Horween CXL steer has become :D
So after the success of the "Adventurer" I decided to do a second project .. this time the start point was the AL Oakland but I decided to try the single lipped pockets and also have unstudded inner pockets. The collar I wanted to mimic the early 40's W colar jacets with a little more curve to...
Just thought you guys might like to see how it's aging ... this jacket got SLATED on here when it was launched ( unfairly IMHO ) and as soon as I saw this one appear on the AL Outlet page I snapped it up for £350 as a tester for buttons. Those who have seen my previous post will know I'm not a...
Could be .... button up Aero jackets in my experience have never had the "gun pocket" like the G-1 or highwayman / halfbelt style ... my VDR's have always had the pocket in the lining. It just seems to be that in a button up jacket they used to mount the pockets in the lining so I'd assume...
Nice ..... really nice :D. I've got an AL Simmons Bilt in horween burgundy steer which started off really stiff and heavy ( 4.2oz) ... it's now softened off really nice (10 months) and drapes beautifully, took a lot of work and still needs some work on the pockets but I focussed mostly on the...
Looks great ... and nice to see another lounger who likes that style of fit " just a little bit relaxed" I'll use that, just how I like them :) ...... wear it well.
I don't think anyone is rubbishing anyones product here ...... simply explaining why they use the raw material they do.
Full Grain ...... exceptional leather, great for jackets and a wide variety of products
Top Grain .... also exceptional Leather with a slightly different characteristic...
agreed ... but they have some pictoral evidence and the items on display comes directly from the John Lennon Estate along with several other items ... as do the Michael Jackson items etc.
In any case it's a REALLY cool looking jacket .... no makers label I could see but a nice tartan/plaid...
That's sort of the point Paul ... he is reported to have bought it before he went to Hamburg .... the 4 Hamburg Jackets were identical ... this one is an outlier but is confirmed as the jacket he wore in the cover for "Rock & Roll" as photographed by Jurgen Vollmer ( he took a few of this...
Rob .. I seem to recall that they bought 4 identical leather jackets in Hamburg and that these had distinctive wool inserts in the collar. I recall seeing a copy in one of the Hard Rock Cafe's ( can't remember the exact one) but they were more 60's styled and much more mass produced looking...
Hey Guys ...
was in at the Rock & Roll hall of fame in Cleveland at the weekend and had a long look at their Beatles exhibit where they have a " John Lennon Hamburg " Jacket.
It's a halfbelt jacket very similar to JC's Ventura ( with some subtle variations re. cuff straps, collar and...
my moveable feast
I also am a long term sufferer of OJS ..... I'll stick just to those which may interest the FLer's
Leathers .......

Have to say I have nothing but praise for the quality of my BK M-422
Easilly on a par if not better than equiv. jackets (M-422) I have owned from Aero ( pattern was not great and REALLY small made) and Eastman ( knits went baggy after 3 months)
Competition is a good thing I think and the...
