I too have used it on jackets .... it's a great product and is natural and free of distillates ( unlike pecards for example) .... it can be quite a "heavy" dressing and certainly improves water resilience ( the beeswax I guess) and I've seen no long term negative effects over the 10 or so years...
Had a few of both, 7 Irvins ( 2 x originals, which I was always a little aprehensive about wearing, 2 x Aero's, 2 x Eastmans, one WPG) and 4 D-1s ( 2 x Eastmans, 2 x Aero ) ...... of the Irvins the earlier Eastman Irvin was my favourite, very soft yet supple fleece and hide and a nice length...
Ken and Lydia may have been esconced in retirement in the Highlands, Denny and Holly may have been pursuing other endeavours and 80% of the machinists and the cutters and management may now not be there.
That's not really the point ... a little bit of credit to Ms Leitch ... she's a mighty...
I did look at some vintage CHP jackets and while they were made of thick leather (2.5-3oz) .. .they were generally steer ( I only ever saw a few horsehide examples and the hide was always significantly thinner ( max 2.5oz) than CXL and while it looked chrome tanned it didn't have the same...

But even that has been used by several manufacturers .. in fact one manufacturer of M/C jackets was even called "Highwayman" in the 60's and 70's ...... and it has been the source of much litigation !
Doesn't look like mine ... looks like a roadster ! Mine has the W collar of the Detroit and a much more slanted chest pocket. Good article though ..... will be interesting to see soe of the collaborative pieces with Edwin etc.
Please ... as before guys .. no manufacturer bashing.
Just thought you might like to see it.
Again ... as before ... it fits fine, I don't need any comments on fit ... it's as I like it, as I sized it and just how I want it to be. By all means comment on construction, quality of hide or...
I had a "Blue Label" Jerky Horsehide one that I bought on ebay in a 44" for £175.... it was a HEAVY jacket and felt a little overdone as a reversible ( always felt like there was too much going on in the lining ) ... never wore it in the wool out configuration as the lining was a green and black...
I typically ride in Rukka jacket and trousers or Alpinestars leather and draggin jeans, Rukka/Held / Alpinestars gloves, Daytona / Altberg boots and a Shoei Mutitec helmet ( soon to be replaced with a Neotec ). I wear an Oxford Fluro vest over this ensemble and bikesafe illuminated vest when...
