Greetings:
Are there accepted ratios (length-to-width) for determining if a wearer is a wide oval, standard oval, or long oval? I would suspect that in considering hats like a straw boater or a bowler it would be helpful to have a sense what the terms mean -- not much give in some of...
Moe, Larry, the cheese!
Thanks. Seems to me I recall Curly wearing a skunk skin cap, complete with a rising tail. Perhaps a little too silly for this group, but it brings a smile to my face 50+ years after I first saw the episode.lol

stretch indeed
You, sir, are too kind. I'm still the stuff of my mother's nightmares, even 57+ years after my delivery. :eusa_doh:
Pics would be great, when you get them. Thank you.

looks like it might work....
I'm liking the one on the lower left. It appears that as the length is increased, so is the width.
What brand is it, or your source, or do all of the typical 4-way stretchers work like that?
Thanks for the pics, BW.

I would be interested in your impressions once it arrives. I'm pretty well decided on either black or grey, but I'd like to see it on someone's head for overall shape.
Can a modern hat be steamed and the brim relaxed a little? As I mentioned, the tight curl brim doesn't do much for me...
I am a new member of the forum tho I've lurked for awhile. I am in the market for a Homburg (black or dove gray) and have seen many on-line. I've read the 'Homburg' thread.
I have a 7 3/4" noggin and find many of the choices don't go that large. I also much prefer a wider-brimmed style and...
thanks
Thanks for the sites and the advice. I'm still making up my mind between a 2" or 3" brim. The stingier ones seem to more available.
Thanks again, gentlemen.

Hi: I am a new member of TFL and this my first post. I've enjoyed reading many of the historical posts, and have learned a lot.
I am considering the purchase of a straw boater for the summer and need advice on brands and sources. I have a relatively large-sized head (7 3/4) and have...
