Rodkins - yours is remarkably similar to one I just one on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Men...gNAA0onFUhbowozO2hc+ThM=&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Not sure of the age. It's got a 2 1/2 brim, a huge 2 1/8 ribbon and about a 5 1/2 open crown.

It has an interest brim treatment...The edge is folded under and stitched in place, but the stiches do not go all the way thru to the top of the brim. If you look closely at the underwelt, you can see a row of stiching on the welt and one just in front of it. How common was that sort of treatment?

This is a rather short thread. There must be more Tom n Jerrys' out there. Specs: 2 3/4" raw edge brim with concentric rows of spiral stitching; 5 3/4" open crown, cellophane liner cover.

Here's the hat that started this thread. I realise these photos aren't brilliant (taken more than 7 years ago, indoors, with a very bad digital camera), and will endeavour to get better ones.

I see your stitched brim and raise you a stitched crown! Still one of my favourites. Sadly the furniture collapsed as soon as I wore it so I had to replace the sweat. The liner is not original and came from an eBay auction for just the liner.

Some newer pics. This is difficult stitching to capture. the felt has a distinct hairiness to it - not a long hair but certainly not smooth felt either, and the stitch work tends to hide down in the felt. Interesting that the label was glued in before the stitch work was done. I would have thought this would be done the other way round. Any idea, Brad, on a date on this one?

I need some help age dating this one as well ask the spiral one I posted. This one has an oilskin liner protector and the spiral has a cellophane liner protector.

Baron thanks for posting the photos of your TJ with the spiral stitching on the whole hat. Very interesting. I've seen a Borsalino with similar stitching all over that hat as well. That must be a real high crown, looks like the tag says 5 7/8.
