My old Lost Worlds Ryder in horsehide used to; sitting down while it was zipped up was comical and had me looking like this guy:

At some point I thought that was cool too. To be honest, I like it better now when the jackets collapse and are soft. Not as soft as butter, but just stiff enough so that it can't stand up on its own. I also think it's more comfortable to have the jacket over the arm or shoulder if you don't have a built-in wardrobe with you. But the show effect of such stiff jackets is quite something.

Thanks for bumping up this thread so I could see this pic. This is just epic. If some famous conceptual artist did this, it would be famous. Lots of movement and various connotations to it. Just fabulous.
Thanks! Did not put that much thought into it though tbh just picked one at a time in no particular order and saw if it would stick.
I entertained the idea of making a stop motion of them marching on but I feel like it would be pretty time consuming so never got around to it... maybe one day.

I just have to ask.

How comfortable is a jacket that's stiff enough to stand on it's own like this ?
Obviously comfort is subjective, but do they feel stiff and tiring to wear even after they're broken in ?

I think it mainly depends on the leather characteristic - I've got 2 used LWs with 4oz HH that are well-broken in, soft and extremely comfortable. They're not standing anytime soon.
Also got a brand new 5oz LW HH jacket - this is thick and stiff leather from the get-go, but softened up a decent amount as well.

I think leather like CXL stuffed with oils and waxes behave differently, especially if exposed to cold temps. That's when they could be broken in but still stiffen up and may not be the most comfortable.

Thanks for the info.
I don't have that much experience with leather jackets since I got into wool fairly quickly and only have 4 at this point, I have some vests but of course a vest could almost be stiff as a board and be wearable.
My stiffest jacket is my Taylor's CMPD which will kind of stand up, but that's pretty much just because of the zip in liner.
It is probably about as stiff as I'd want to go, but don't have enough experience to really know.
A lot of the jackets posted here have gorgeous leathers that I love admiring, but even if I could afford them I'm not sure how I'd feel about wearing one in a stouter leather all day.
I will have to experience something at some point.
