The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

I've had 2 Borsalinos. My hat size runs between 59cm - 60cm. In fact, most of my vintage hats are probably tagged 7-3/8.

My 80s Borsalino was a 59 and was much too small. The vintage Borsalino was unreeded, size 60, and just fit right. A smidge smaller and it would have been too tight for me.

I thought maybe Borsalino's trend to running small would translate over to other European producers so grabbed a gorgeous Tonak velour in 61.... too big.

For Borsalinos I would never even try anything smaller than 60-61. My customs run 59.5 cm or around 23-3/8".

I’m a 7 5/8 long/extra long oval. I have a Borsalino in size eight (8) US that fits perfectly! I also have Borsalinos in 7 5/8 that fit fine but most are on the small side. I’ve never found one in 7 3/4 to try. I’ll also say that I’ve had decent luck getting tight Borsalinos to stretch up to fit with no Ill effects; something I can’t say if all hats.

And thanks for bringing that black Tonak Velour up...I still wonder if I should have jumped on it. At least it went to a fellow Lounger (and a very nice guy).

Borsalino Export Qualität homburg in Mirtillo colour. Size 58 (7 1/4 American), with the brim a smidge over 5,5cm and the crown 10,5cm at the pinch. Blue homburg hats are always of interest, but this has something else worth of note too. The price label was still inside and it was dated. While I would have put this one in the late sixties to early seventies it was in fact dated 110479, so 1979. It cost 63,75 DM then. I don't know how much that would be today but it wasn't cheap.
Anyway, here it is.

Borsalino again. Sold to me as a size 62, which would perhaps have made someone on the lounge happy, but it is in fact a size 60, Which may also make someone happy, but not the same person. These don't come around much in the larger sizes.
Borsalino homburg in black. Size 61/2 punti (60 European) with the brim at 6cm and the crown 11cm at the pinch. A commanding hat in very nice condition.

I came across this hat at a more obscure site. I’ve seen similar hats before and I’ve always wondered about them. Can the Brotherhood educate me? I’ve speculated that they are women’s hats as I can’t tell the orientation so I do t know which side the “bow” is on. The size tag is in Punti only if that helps.

Can't tell you much about them, Brent. I believe these were made in the seventies and eighties and they come in a variety of styles, with the stitching lines in different patterns. The Borsalino catalogue Daniele posted not too long ago has a few of them listed. This is a men's hat I believe, looking at the flange. Very much a fashion hat. Don't know if these were all made in the Augusta line.

Thanks, Stefan. I don’t care for the style, but oooh that felt.

My three peluche hats arrived. Despite them being size 61 and me being a 7 5/8, all three of them are too small. If they would have fit I’d have happily added them all to my rotation. Now I’m looking to trade or sell them. I’ll add the to the classifieds when I get the time. All have open crowns that are approximately 5 3/4 inches.

Light grey with blue tones.

Hat #4 is a darker grey. Sometimes I see green tones. All three hats deserve a better photographer and better light.

Feel free to send me a PM if you have questions or if you’re interested. As for size, I think a normal (not large) US 7 1/2 or a large 7 3/8 would fit these much better than any US 7 5/8 (darn it).

The most unusual color of the trio.

Hat #4 is a darker grey. Sometimes I see green tones. All three hats deserve a better photographer and better light.

This Borsalino production was made around late eighties/nineties. Usually they have excellent felt with very good finishes. Really they deserve a natural light to be appreciate. I will wait to see them.
A very interesting find, even if not your size

Cool hats, Brent. Pity they don't fit you. Would have been nice to add three peluche ones to the fold.

Second hat of the day. The first Borsalino of this deal
2vvkknq.jpg

A classic lobbia Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore in grey.
inzo5w.jpg

Size tagged 5 1/2 so it is 58 centimeter, but not at all, it is a 5 or a 7 US size. No paper label
206lr4g.jpg

The production is the Borsalino historical era and the felt and finishes are very well made
30ndsmv.jpg

The felt is medium-light grey and soft and it was sold inMilan in the fifities
2m2up86.jpg

I like in this classical Borsalino homburg the contrasting ribbon and the very well made details
2i1e3di.jpg

The proportions are: curled brim to 5 cm., Crown to 11 cm. and ribbon at 4 centimeter
2h2qc21.jpg

The hat is very little used and, apart from the dust, removed, it is perfect
dvhdtk.jpg

Unpleasantly it is another hat, along with the "Sombrero" show today, that will have to leave since it is a "fez" on my head
PM if you are interested in this classic Borsalino Homburg
