A whole new SECTION - 'The OUTDOOR LIFE"

Some suggestions have been made previously, to have an entire section for "the Outdoor Life" that would allow for various threads for Safari, camping, hiking, exploring, equipment, clothing, outdoor sports such as shooting sports, and even discussion of outdoor vocations all with a mind to the past and comparing inovations making a difference from the past.

It would make a good section I am sure but either they are having a hard time for expanding the list or it hasn't gotten the regard it need sto make the move, so as they say, Hope Springs Eternal!

Or JUST DO IT!:eusa_clap

Totally - Shirts, jackets, pants, boots, hats, glasses, belts, bags...

It would make things alot easier. Last week, I spent 3 hours going over this thread form start to finish!

Well everyone, the topic of separating this thread into its own FL Forum was been discussed previously (even with management). Yes it is a lengthy thread, but consider the length of the Beauty Thread before it was made into its own forum. A number of us have spoken with MK, even volunteered our services as potential bartenders of a new forum, but it is not going to happen just yet. Management knows what is going on in this thread and has their plans for what to do as it continues to grow (along with a few other lengthy threads).

Bottom line - this is not the subject to be discussed in this specific thread, let's get back to discussing vintage adventure clothing/gear, and let's all be patient as things get sorted out.

Cheers!

This is my issue. What on earth do, for example, the current offerings from orvis, the abomination J. Peterman, etc. have to do with vintage adventure gear? I see very little connection. I could say, for example, that because Abercrombie an Fitch are a renowned outdoors/hunting/utility etc. clothing/gear specialist that all their current offerings belong here. "What think you of these trousers that are khaki coloured …" kind of thing.

I would personally like to see individual threads for vintage and modern. (I would never advocate more subfora - i believe there are far too many already and far too much restriction of participation to be healthy (see "Beauty" as an essentially loungette-only domain)) H. Johnson and I have something sort of in train vis a vis vintage tropical military wear … i believe BT may be involved, not sure. May take some time. This would probably be set up as an independent thread and might need some serious bartending to keep it on course.

Set it up as a vintage-only thread and go for it. :)

Careful, Skipper - that's a damned radical suggestion! You'll get flack. Learn from my mistakes...

I was thinking of a thread on KD and JG but with a postwar slant and a price limit on each item of, say 15GBP. OK, perhaps 20GBP at most. In this I would envisage 1949 Pattern and 1950 Pattern khaki and jungle green drill and Aertex jackets, shorts and trousers, bush hats etc. A sort of poor (or reasonable) man's reaction to the price that 1944 Pattern shirt went for on eBay recently. What was it, 130GBP? Ridiculous! Most '44 Pattern is postwar anyway.

I have commissioned an artist to produce a series of woodcuts of some 1949 and 1950 Pattern items from the bottom of some of my closets, and, if anyone is in favour, I am more than willing to join in a show of our shorts...

I am seeing original leather leggings in surplus (eBay mainly) for cheap. Would that suit the purpose? One would have to watch sizing s it seems the fellows then were pretty spindly.

GI Leggings

I would avoid the WW2 GI or Marine leggings, they are not exactly user friendly. There are alot of better options out there.

Cheers,

Scott
