Found a rather cool, vintage canteen the other day. No clue as to the brand, but I have an idea in mind for use within the Rover's vintage expedition gear collection.

Someone has sewn a blanket material cover around it and I plan to remove it in order to see if there is a maker's mark. I'll then reattach it. The outer covering will also remain, but I'm adding some cordage to it like that in the last pic.

That blanket cover looks great. Love it! The canteen looks like an old boy scout one. If you plan on using it you may consider wax coating the inside with beeswax. I waxed one of mine to seal up a small seam leak. I was able to use it for another year before I fell and crushed it.

Thanks for the advice. It does look like a Boy Scout canteen, but have found no indication of it. Palco produced some canteens for them, but those had about a 1" wall widening the thing. This one is basically a discus. I'm hoping there is a manufacturer's mark on it that can be seen once the blanket covering is removed.

I'd like to ask if there is some hiking gear that take advantage of today's knowledge, maintains a 'vintage' appearance, and won't break the bank?
