No, but I got this Dobbs Cross Country.
The felt is so light and thin! I can barely feel I have a hat on.
Now I know what all the fuss about Vintage is.
I still have to learn how to crease them, though.

So, the other day while in Dallas I forced myself to make a pitstop at Hatco in Garland. Picked up this really nice Stetson Royal De Luxe Premier Whippet 150th anniversary edition. Really nice soft thick buttery felt and a nice vintage style straight crown. Told the salesman I really liked the hat but the golden mustard pug was a bit too "pimp daddy" for me. He reached around to one of the displays and picked up different pug he had laying there and said "Is this one better?" I liked it so he threw it in the box at no extra charge. They sell the pugs for about $2.50 each. I know, I know - remove the original band before attaching the new one, just testing it out for now. Out the door on sale for right at $100 bucks. ;)

Beautiful. How does the 150th anniversary felt compare to vintage?

I wondered that too, mind you I am a neophyte at this myself. But I picked up the new Stetson premiere in one hand and my older 50's era Huckel in the other. Closed my eyes and could not tell the difference. Both weigh about the same, same thickness felt, both very soft and velvety and very easy to crease. The color and sheen on that old Huckel are amazing so I am sure the quality and finish of the Huckel is much better, but dang if I could tell much of a difference with my eyes closed. I will now wait to be schooled by the German Hat scholars that abound here. Ach du Lieber :)

I like ribbons and bows better than pugs. Pugs seem imparmanent and/or makeshift to me.

We share with Stefan a love on the Borsalino mistery about making, brands and the Borsalino not "Borsalino branded"
a47nyv.jpg

This is a homburg in deep brown with the matching ribbon and brim trimmed in the same color
2rpuzut.jpg

The measures are classic: 6 cm. the brim and 12 cm the crown.
xxbiw.jpg

The hat seems to be very old for its sweatband that is 5 cm .

It is possible that it was done immediately after the war.
14blssg.jpg

Qualità Extra Superiore, it does not have the name of the store on the swetband and the paper label becomes a mystery because the name Borsalino is missing.
2yweu8j.jpg

The words on the label in paper are extremely strange and I can not decipher the name of the color. It looks like a sample and comes together with others of very small size from Ghiffa the homeland of Panizza.
mvnj4m.jpg

The hat is in very good shape, no moths or failure, only the sweatband is dry and at one point the basting has been released. The size is 5. The hat is very elegant for the continuous shades.

Sorry, but this Borsalino is just keep by Stefan for our next exchange
Stunning! Beautiful dimensions and color. The mystique makes it even more interesting.

You nailed It! What a great looking hat, you rock it!
Just in. Custom VS Blue Smoke. 2 in. Sharks Gill. 2 3/8 under welt brim. 6 inch open crown. In a word: "Wow!" Wanted a lighter piece that didn't "scream" 'look at me.' With a darker skin tone, some lighter colors take the eyes away from the total 'me,' if you know what I mean. As I venture deeper into collecting, I am aware of certain colors and dimensions of hats that are more appealing...And not just to purchase for purchase sake. I am very pleased!!

Made it home in time to pick up my only Thoroughbred. The color is more buckskin than gray, that shows in the photos. The crown is 6", and brim is 3 1/2". This hat reminds me of early sixties Resistol westerns. The felt has a very nice finish with a velvety hand. It is more of a dress western thickness. Very happy with this one. After a brushing, steaming, and reshape, I will post it on western anyone, and Thoroughbred threads.

That’s a nice one! The felt looks dense. I can’t wait to see what you do with it. You really have a knack for reshaping these hats.

Beautiful hat Dd! Not knowing much about these, does this one have some age to it? The details look kind of vintage. Looking forward to the transformation.

Thanks Red, I don't know much about this brand, but it is very similar to my early sixties Resistols. My guess would be about the same time period. They were made by the same company as Beaver brand.
