Call Me a Cab

So I received my Mr Disney fifteen hat today, only gave it a brushing so far but it looks in great condition with a little light staining on the liner, brim binding and a couple of dark dots on the underside of the brim.

It’s a very dense felt, 2 7/8” brim with a 3/4”binding, 1 3/4” ribbon with wind string. OC is about 6” and 143g in weight. The thing that actually intrigues me most is the name “Ahwahnee” which is the native of Yosemite (also a luxury hotel at Yosemite and a tiny place in California).

Cheers
Killer!

That’s a great colour.
The Americans on here will correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to recall that although they call the vegetable an eggplant, the colour is still called aubergine.
I’ve been living in Japan, where American English rules supreme for so long now that the words “eggplant“ and “zucchini” come into my head first, but I take a perverse pleasure in calling them aubergines and courgettes, knowing that no one will understand me.
LOL, if I heard someone use those words, I wouldn't understand them either... even with my mother being the awesome cook that she is! So I'm guessing that the use of the word aubergine as the colour for an eggplant is neither East or West Coast in the US.

I remember a few years back Optimo had a proprietary color they named Aubergine. Would that make it a mid west term?

No vintage, but i bought this Panama hat because of the twotone ribbon and the fedoralook. Fits perfectly and it's very lightweighted. Maybe not the finest weave, but really a nice hat!

This one snuck up on me. I had just deleted my bookmarks of hats I was watching on the bay after pulling down my felts (boxed for summer) and telling myself, "I don't need any more hats." But I did have one I wanted to replace because the brim was a bit big for me (you could call me Trilby Terry). But I love the hat because it's a true brown. Y'all know how hard it is to find a brown hat that doesn't have a touch of olive or green. So, one of the bookmarks I dumped was for an Adam Hat in brown. With brim just shy of 2". But a little pricey for me AND a size small. Next day I get a discount offer from the seller. Kismet. And I've been wanting an Adam Hat for a long time. I've stretched smaller hats so the size didn't scare me, and it sits on my head just fine, I'll probably leave it be. Anyone guess the age from the liner? It's a cool metallic, burnished bronze color. There used to be a great page with Adam Liners and dates, but it went down and isn't in the wayback machine. Curiously, the sweat is black with no embossing, logos, or other decoration. I didn't find anything under it either. Size label is gold with some greening. You'll get the head shot when the weather cools, and I'll do a post in Adam's Alley in the fall, too. My freezer is full, but this lid is clean (no dust) and free of moth bites, so it's just going to be put away with some vetiver until after Labor Day.

Cavanagh homburg in black. Size 55 with the bound brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. From the liner and the information here this should be from between 1936 and 1945. Even better. At first I thought the sweatband was shot, but it turned out to be a Carter detachable sweatband on this one. First time I've seen one of those.

Rehfus & Cie. "Kolibri / Hummingbird", French Point 6, possibly early 1960s. Rehfus & Cie. was located in Kehl am Rhein, Germany (directly across from Strasbourg, France) and closed in 1963. The Mélange Felt has a Rhau finish but a very soft hand. Rehfus & Cie. are less common but very high quality.

Hey all!
I found this mid grade Monte at a local vintage shop. It was badly in need of a cleaning and reshaping. Also, as I found out when I got it home, steeped in about 50 years of cigarette smoke. My go-to, Zero Odor Pro, did nothing to remove the smell. After hitting it with castile soap, citrus oil cleaner, a magic eraser, and a naptha bath the smell diminished quite a bit. The Zero Odor was able to do it's thing then and the smell is almost gone. Unfortunately the sweatband, already a bit stiff, took damage in the process of destinkifying the hat. Still wearable though.

The open crown is 4 3/4 inches, the brim 2 3/8 inches. 95 grams without the pug.
I have not before seen a semi calado woven this way, just for people like me who feel a little squeamish about pushing a pug hook through a finely woven hat. Maybe the weaver didn't like the thought of ham-handed puggery either...

Thanks Joe. Darrell makes a great hat
Thank you Rob, I always enjoy working with you with hat orders. I really appreciate the opportunity to make a hat following your design specs. Making a hat that a customer has helped to design is a lot more fun than just making a hat to sell on Ebay, this insures that the hat that I make is a one of a kind.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with you on the hat that you wanted. Contact me anytime.

Got a couple new "greys" in today. Nice clean hats. Fresh out of the mail with only a tad bit of steam and brushing. Always good when a hat comes in and isnt folded flat. No creases, stains or holes. First is a 5x Beaver Brand and the other is a 3x Towncraft. Both have a bound brim edge. Ill do a bit of steaming, ribbon ironing, shaping, and cleaning, and trot them out in public the next couple days. Biggest thing is that they actually fit LOL
