...would have several divisions:

Yossarian's: high-authenticity repro flight jackets, without the attitude of some of the US dealers ("don't email us, don't expect to use plastic without a hefty surcharge, and don't shop here unless you're a Real Man, one of the Discerning Few, and a Type 'A' Neo-Libertarian Crank who believes in the Right to Charge Full Retail.")

Cincy Magneto: tailored clothing inspired by obscure movies instead of monster cult hits. Want the suit Lyle Talbot wore in Mandalay in 1934? We're hep!

Mystery Fletcheration Associates: Your History Detectives for Hire—consultants, copywriters, researchers, typographers, musical arrangers, connaisseurs of various civilized pleasures, jack and jill of all trades. Competitive rates. No, really. Certified Obsessive-Compulsives!
(Help Wanted: Jill of all trades.)

This might be a little weird, and I'm not sure how much of a market there would be for it, but I would LOVE to open a bakery. A good, old fashioned, walk in and order cakes but have small delicacies to eat too. Sweets and treats. :)
You mean they don't have bakeries in the States??!! But the bread is so good; how could they get rid of them?

Yes, the USA, in every state and in every town and city has a plethora of small bakeries of every type, ethnic description and style; from the frou frou fancy shmancy Croisant and Baugette type of establishment to the old fashioned farmer's style enterprise, with dense, multi grain and weighty bread, and country style pies and cakes.
A rather small and local bakery near to my residence is called: "Truly Scrumptious". It is!!!

Just the smell is worth driving over. The tastes? Even better.:eusa_clap :)

Whew! I thought for a minute that people over there never got to eat all those delicious pastries and goodies. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I'm sure there are bakeries around but I know of only two locally. And one is more the cakes only for delivery type place. THe other is like what I would love to do, but their selection of goodies is limited for the walk in clientele.

I'd like to have LOTS of options.

You can usually fnd a few here and there, but it also depends on the region you live in.

I always used to want to run a proper old-fashioned bakery too - and sell proper old-fashioned cakes and bread and things like Lancashire hot-pots....

I even saw the very place I wanted to open it - a lovely little old 1950s style bakery with big glass-front cabinets and black and white tiles on the floor, and a little chocolate machine outside....

I keep playing with the idea of starting my own little online or craft fair business selling my handmade arts and crafts. I make cards, and floral hair clips (thanks to some handy glue info given to me by Pink Dahlia). I've just started decoupaging box handbags, and my newest idea is hand-painted fans. I enjoy sewing up simple baby blankets, stuffed baby blocks, and am looking to try my hand at aprons too.
I have a friend who just took the Etsy plunge. Maybe one of these days, I will too... :D

Oh Joie you should! What sorts of fans were you wanting to paint?

I was thinking of the plain colored Asian paper fans, probably white ones to begin with.
I've been doing a little research in the library on Asian brush painting too. It's been a while.

Thank you EVER so much Joie DeVive

I just signed up to a seller account on Etsy :)

Especially with this going on on eBay at the moment - and to be honest I'm getting thoroughly sick of the 'Bay as a seller - I reckon Porpentine Period Productions might be advised to find a new home - and you just gave me the tip-off I needed.

A discount for any Loungers who do historical re-enactment lol

Oooooo, I love playing the imagine you could do whatever you wanted game!
For me I'd open up a patisserie/bonbonerie and spend all day making chocolates and sweets, and fancy baked goods, I used to do a lot of baking when I was in high school, and my chocolates were getting pretty professional looking, but now there's just no time, and I'm flighty, my other though would be to open up a bookstore like Embryo Concepts in Funny Face:D except I'd specialise more in the rare and antique range of that.

So now I study languages and am considering a carreer in translations instead[huh] lol

Joie, those paper fans sound lovely!:)

Maybe some Kindness in a refrigerated display near the side wall.

Kindness should be served chilled?!

Well its perishable.....so until its in the hands of the person who will be using it.....gotta be chilled lest it spoil while it waits.

Spoiled Kindness is probably accountable for a lot of the meanness going on in the world......see? ;)

That makes perfect sense! See..you SHOULD open a common sense shop!

Ohh....though that just brought to mind a perfumery called Common Scents which would be neat too!
