I ran a small comic book store for about a year, and sold the business. It seemed like a good idea at the time, like flipping a house. On paper, it was a great move. But I miss it terribly. It was the most fun I've had working in my adult life.

I've always had a secret ambition to run a simple old-fashioned downtown lunch room. I'd have a counter with about ten stools, a row of one-arm chairs along the opposite wall, and maybe a booth or two in the front windows. There would be no irony, no posing, no pretentiousness, no artificially-contrived "faux retro" atmosphere, no ten-dollar hamburgers, just honest food for honest working people.

I'd go broke in a week.

Or someone would buy your business and franchise it worldwide. I always get a chuckle out of seeing the Johnny Rockets' locations in upscale malls. I don't think that's what the original owners had in mind.
