Ephraim Tutt said:I just netted this one...mainly because it was cheap, in good condition, a colour I wanted and had its original box.
But what is it with that bow on the back?!
I'm guessing it's from the 60's. What do you think?

It's not that different.....lots of hats with back bows.High Pockets said:I looked long and hard at that one myself,.....nice looking hat.
Not too sure about the back-bow,...."different" for sure.

I blame the Beatles for such things.
rlk said:Late 1950's.

Ok, the desire for Whippet's is now officially a perverse obsession.
CRH said:Good job there, MG. What's the brim width on that one?
Is the extra shipping charge for a rectangular offset brim?
Don't forget about the Green Machine!
I'd say so, that the pinch developed from being taken on and off from the front. There are some porkpie hats that are blocked in a teardrop shape, but this doesn't look like one to me.Ephraim Tutt said:I was wondering about that Dinerman. Do you think it started life as a 'pie and has been given a teardrop?
The brown sweatband points at '50s. The color liner says late '50s or '60s. The style was relatively short lived, mid-late '50s through the early '60s.Ephraim Tutt said:Thanks rlk. You guys amaze me with your skills at determining dates. Is there something that pinpoints it to late 50's instead of 60's or is it just a gut feeling based on experience?

HarpPlayerGene said:That is a wonderful, larger size Whippet, but it's not green, it's grey. Congrats, mg!
