Seems an amazing bit of fortune that I won this one.

All the signs say it's going to be a winner. Thanks RLK, for once again saving me from an ebay purchase :)

Won this one yesterday. Not sure what will arrive, but planning a future Optimo Optimo if it works out.
For $11.02 it seemed a reasonable gamble. Any one heard of the Ecuadorian seller Ramon L. Zambrand?

I cleared out 14 hats last week and I've already acquired 4 more. It may be time for an intervention.

My apologies, I'm the guilty one. I have a very similar one in gray and the 7-1/4 is just a tad snug so I figured the 7-3/8 should be fine. If this was a Stetson you could easily double its price on eBay.
Nice one...As soon as it came up I tried to BIN.The seller said there was already a lot of interest so turned me down.I would have paid more than that .[huh]

I'm thinking there is an E-mail going to all goodwill outlets advising them not to put fedoras out in the store. Ebay is the way......

Yeah, tell me about it! I have found one 6-7/8 and one 7-1/4, both stingies and neither particularly nice or desirable...and I have been haunting several area Goodwills for a few months now!

Yep, those 7 1/2's are going high! I'll PM you on a very nice reasonably-priced 7 1/2 Dobbs that I think you'll like - I can put you in contact with the seller.

Well, since you don't yet have PM: I know where there's a beautiful black Dobbs 7 1/2 for about $80 or 90 - it has a relatively short brim and longer felt. If I remember correctly (it's at a local antique store), it has a red liner and a black or dark brown sweat. I really liked it, even with the short brim - just too big. If interested, I'll take some pics next time I'm there, then put you in touch with the seller.

Hey Herzen, losing ebay hat auctions is a right of passage. I'm sure most folks here have lost plenty -- I know I have.

Don't I know it. I'm pretty used to losing auctions on stuff like musical instruments and cameral equipment (stuff that generally goes waaay out of my range), but it seems somehow more frustrating with hats...

I'm still trying to secure me a nice Dobbs... and don't even talk about the Whippets! Damn this size 73/8 - 71/2 head of mine. It looks as though genetically our heads got bigger.

Bigger brains? :p
