Herringbonekid... I am glad you said that. I feel the same, but I don't know her personally so I cannot say if I would be right or wrong in thinking that.

Caledonia... Burlesque... how long do you have? LOL Burlesque is a satyr, comedy, parody. Back when the American born Burlesque show had it's heyday, it was the poor man's Vaudeville. It was a comedy show that dealt with sexual innuendos, political humor, and nonesense skits (think Laugh-In). When the girlie shows entered (and what Burlesque is now known for) all it really was was ladies dancing or strutting around and taking off the costumes that they wore. Depending on the county they would either have to wear mesh bras, pasties, or go completely topless. This was in the early days... Now the top stars had a gimmick so by the 50's most gals had "acts" -- storylines, themes, animals, ect. While dancing was still involved, it was no longer as simplistic as it used to be. By the 60's women started to become domineering and wanted to make a stronger sexual statement. With TV, stag film reels, and movies, the comedy aspect was pushed out 99.5%. Soon Burlesque Strippers became go-go-gals... they became pole strippers... and now with the rivale Burlesque is one big dirty joke. The Burlesque gals of today are part Vegas Showgirl, part performance artist, part comedian, and part dancer. As little as a few year's ago Burlesque gals were adimit about keeping their style seperate from the modern pole dancer, by never going further than a g-string and pasties. Unfortunatly, with people trying to shock and push the boundries they are getting away from what Burlesque is. Burlesque is subtly, fun, silliness, and brassiness... live sexual acts (that some performers are doing today) gets away from that. And in my opinion is A) not Burlesque and B) A lack of learning one's Burlesque history. Those are far and few between thank goodness. Most people who perform get that it is a joke... One big dirty joke.
Now, to try to simplify it... Burlesque Stripteaseing is Grandpa's girlie show... one glove off at a time tassel twirling, boas, long gowns, feather fans... It is about the Show not the Showing. It is about the Conceal, not the Reveal. It is Alluding, not the Lude. :)

Marc... I personally never understood fashion. Why do so many people allow complete strangers dictate what is cool or uncool to wear? Why do they let people they never met tell them that gold is the color of this season, when they like pink better. It always seems to be on the worst dressed list, you had to have confidence and your own style. Oh no! Not that!! LOL I think I would much rather be on the worst dress list, than the best dressed anyday! Because then it means I am not a lamb!

Gypsy and Evelyn West had a similar style where they would tell jokes as they stripped. Gypsy's whole gimmick was that she would say what she was thinking. Here she is taking off her clothes yet she is talking about the most unsexy things like having to go to the tailor's or pick up something at the grocer. :)

It really is great. I think that's how I would do it. Any idea that she started that way to get over the initial stage fright then it just stuck?

Miss Von Teese is fine and good at getting publicity, but again I think she is sub standard and a bit worn. There are much better fresher Burlesque dancers / Models out there.

I think its grand that the lounge has a no Profane language
MP

I would consider words that denounce women as worn and substandard the foulest, lowest kind of profanity a person could use. But this is the very sort of attitude the sex industry promotes. A message board that claims to celebrate “gentlemen” would protest this kind of attitude, and any woman with an ounce of dignity and sense of sisterhood would do the same. It’s a shame it didn’t happen here.

A person can call it burlesque or any other word to sugarcoat the fact that they’re objectifying women, but the fact of the matter is that your trendy “burlesque” shows reduce women to 2nd class status. You can argue my point until your face turns blue, but this thread is proof enough.

Thank goodness Dita at least has a small waist and tiny ankles; that should help her out now that her age has left her substandard and worn.

That is where you are completely wrong! I have never ever felt reduced to a 2nd class status. If anything I have been put on a pedestal after my shows. I find men treat me with more respect after a show than when I am plain ol' walking down the street or hanging out in a social environment.
