I always thought the idea of absinthe was a lot more romantic than the actual drink. I am not a drinker of anykind (well, alcohol, anyway lol) and from what I hear absinthe taste like lighter fluid, so you can imagine I am not in a rush to try it. Even if I was, it is illegal here in the States so you can't get a pure form of it. I suppose I could do to absinthe what I do with martini's. I drink sprite from a martini glass with a cherry instead of an olive... I could always put sprite in an absinthe glass and add food coloring! Lolita = dork

Don't feel bad, my ex didn't drink, but she would drink Hires Root Beer out of one of my 100 year old absinthe glasses.

They are both usually spotted with some gimmicky Czech or German made swill. (Makes for a good photo op I suppose)

Well made absinthe is very drinkable, and far from "lighter fluid".

In general yes....it's poor form.

I read the Powder Room Guidelines & FAQ's before posting and they seemed to allow for Gents participation(with the exception of lingerie threads). Had I known that there were unwritten rules that ran contrary to those stated, I never would have posted in the PR.

OK, so let's get started:

I think that what she does is clear: She performs and has pictures taken for the purpose of male, and to a lesser degree lesbian, arousal.

Forget about the (existing!) aspect of art. It's a tongue-in-cheek alibi. The show is done for men to get in the general mood, and printed pictures are made for them to go a step further (<- US PG).

Whatever you think about pornography, it's hard to deny this is an example of it.

As a lawgiver, I wouldn't prohibit pornography, but I think pornography has more bad effects than good ones. It promotes unrealistic looks and actions as normal among the intellectually challenged, and so lots of artificial dissatisfaction. When the consumer is in a relationship, it also probably always hurts his or her partner, notwithstanding the attitude of openmindedness the partner might pretend to have. Then I hear a great part of pornography involves at least exploitment, if not abuse, of the actors. This might be different in the US than in Asia or Eastern Europe, but if "Dita Von Teese" underwent surgery for this, it speaks for itself.

Goes without saying, all FLers are excluded from the target audience I referred to.

Absinthe1900... I am still not sure if I would want to drink even the good stuff. I really don't like the taste of alcohol... even wine coolers are too much for me. Blah! LOL of course, I would probably try a sip in the end...

Feraud... I don't want to say anything bad about Dita's performances, but I have seen some brilliant performers that really put her to shame. I will say that I think she has improved tremendously since the first time I saw her in 2002. She has curves, I just think she has slimmed down so much that there isn't that soft padding anymore... not like she used to have in the late 1990's. I see people argue about her size all the time... saying that she is the same size she has always been... That may be true, but it is distributed differently. She isn't soft anymore... (granted she isn't hard either)

Marc... She may have all that, but what she doesn't have is a butt.

Shaul-Ike Cohen... When you say "The show is done for men to get in the general mood," please elaborate. As far as I know, that isn't the point anymore (if it really ever was) of the Burlesque dancer. I know when I (and my Burley-Q pals) perform our main concern is to entertain the audience (men and women) and have them get in a happy mood and enjoy themselves and the show. Not for physical thrills....

I think that she's gorgeous...period. I've never seen her perform, but would certainly like to. Meeting her over coffee and fully clothed would be even better. ;)

Firstly .. my twopence worth.

Miss Von Teese is fine and good at getting publicity, but again I think she is sub standard and a bit worn. There are much better fresher Burlesque dancers / Models out there.

Again as already mentioned our very own Gorgeous Lolita for starters and Miss Amanda Lee for seconds.

As for the Men:
.. in powder Room bug. The thing is I go to 'new threads' and just read if something catches my eye I'll respond. Its only been when its far too late that I even noticed I was in the Powder Room.

If they don't wish Men visiting then it shouldn't be accessable. Men should be locked out. Even if there was not another male posting in there could the Ladies really discuss 'issues' freeley knowing they could be 'heard'? If not and as it upsets some people that much, Why not start a powder room forum and let only Females in....

Falsehoods! Men have all these other threads... Hats, Jackets, blah blah correct me if I'm wrong but where does it say Mens Hats, Mens Jackets, etc. What's stopping Women starting posts in there with their hats?

I think its grand that the lounge has a no Profane language or adult talk policy. In other forums it always just ends up.... Sex, Filth ,Jokes, arguments etc and those forums can be easily visited if thats what your after so its a nice it doesn't go on in here.

I don't at all mind men in the Powder Room and I think most of the women here would agree.:eek:fftopic:

Dita is beautiful. But she's completely commercial. Still, I'd love to see her. If you want to see "upcoming" burlesque, go to the New York Burlesque Fest! My troupe performs most years. (PLUG!)

That is how I feel. I think she is gorgeous and I adore her style. I'd probably go to one of her shows, and I'd enjoy meeting with her and chatting with her.

A friend of mine who models met her at a Glamourcon a couple of years ago where they both had booths set up, and described her as extremely polite, soft-spoken, and friendly.

I agree with Bella on the guys-in-the-Powder-Room issue -- as long as they behave like gentlemen and stay out of the discussions of more intimate topics. And who knows, they might learn something!

As for Dita -- jeez, the things I miss out on by living in a small town....

Shoot, I forgot to comment on that! lol

I agree with Lolita and Lizzie. I have absolutely no issues with men participating in the Powder Room discussions. Someone mentioned that it made them uncomfortable to think about men reading some of the topics - but just because they don't post a reply to a particular thread doesn't mean they aren't reading it! Also, you all do realize that anyone can sign up for this site and read the threads, right? I believe many of the forums are even readable without even registering. It is the internet and it is public. If you don't want someone reading something, don't post it online for the world to see. That's my attitude.

I guess I just don't see what the big deal is.

What's this? Women in a Mens' thread?

I think the Ladies would be missing out on a lot if the Men were excluded-
We know a lot of stuff and have a lot of stuff.

Oh- and some of us even have Wives and partners of the Female persuasion too.

Welcome!

Well, just reading over the early posts to this thread... I just have to say that it's nice to see another "Non drinker" here! I'm a Shirley Temple guy my self, and when I feel like something stronger, I get a Coke. lol

Wild Root= dork as well!lol

Now, on to my idea about Dita...

I've know her since 1997 or so, never really got to know her as a person but, I have talked with her at several dances and events. She has always looked like a living Pin Up off the to drawing tables of Vargas! When ever I've seen her, she's always looked 100% authentic, she's a living 40's movie star. She also used to drive a 1939 Chrysler! Don't know if she still has it still... any way back to the topic.

The "Thing" she's married to makes me scratch my head... I don't really understand but, what ever makes her happy. She has become a rather big deal over the last few years, she used to come to the Argyle to see Dean Mora play, that was pretty cool.

I don't know her very well, can't say much about her but, she does put a lot of hard work into looking so 1940's, that's something I truly admire about her and that's about as far as it goes.

Now, as for LolitaHaze, I think she's one classy lady and has more charm about her then Dita. So does our very own Jitterbugdoll! We are so lucky to have some very vintage and classy ladies here!

We are truly blessed!

Agreed. I myself (a man!) proposed this as a solution several months ago. I suggested that it could be done via passwords issued by the "Powder Room" bartenders (who are female). The reaction from those bartenders was ... silence. I assume they considered the idea, but they never responded to it publically. What else could we assume but that their silence meant acceptance of the status quo. So here we are, back where we started.

How about the idea that the men could possibly be gentlemenly and -not read- threads concerning things they know they shouldn't be reading!?

Or are you all too controlled by the baser instincts to do that?

Seriously, if discussing pasties and breast augmentation is 'not a lingerie thread' then I bloody don't know what counts as a lingerie thread.

Just because some women do not mind, doesn't mean that there are not 50 others who are too intimidated and or embarassed to post that they -do- mind.
