I just ordered a pair of gloves from ELC, so I sent Gary an email asking if he could include a piece of leather in the package that I could use. He said my order has already been shipped, but he will send me a leather zipper puller no extra charge. I'm always amazed how nice and helpful they...
It's funny how people seemingly freak out seeing top quality repros of cafe racers and flying jackets. Yet, if you go into any mass producing fashion store, all I've seen for years are cheap lookalikes of the very jackets they criticise. Last year everyone was running around in despicable MA-1...
I watched the episode of the series the above picture was taken from, and those are officers' pinks that look darker due to post processing. I guess I'll go with the pinks, they look less "military" than the M1937s.
Does anyone have any feedback about SoF's pink trousers? They seem to be of a...
I went to a leather tailor who gave me some leftovers. I cut a smaller zipper puller out of one. The colors don't perfectly match, but it's very soft, always hidden by the flap, and makes using the zipper a lot easier. Now I only have to order one of those Thunderer whistles :)
Please enlighten me, I don't know anything about this topic. All I know is that there was a piece of leather attached to the zipper of my Cockpit A-2 - and it was very handy- , and now there is nothing on my Eastman Star.
Were original jackets equipped with this tiny leather strap? Was it just...
Having recently purchased an Eastman Star A-2, I'm wondering if there are any WWII pants that would go well with it, but doesn't look so vintage that I could only pull it off at a reenactment. I'm hesitating between the M1937 and the USAAF officers' pinks. Which one would you recommend? Any...
My ex-wife absolutely hated my Irvin jacket. She said I look like a homeless, and she doesn't want to be seen with me wearing that. Well, she got what she wanted: we're divorced now :D
As someone who researched Eastman A-2s for a long time ,then finally had the chance to try them all at the popup store I learned an important lesson: You must try them in person, there is no substitute for that! No amount of measurements and photos can tell you how they will fit you.
A trip to...
I knew you wouldn't be able to resist the Irvin :) It's certainly the most bad@ss jacket ever made. Don't worry about the pockets, your jeans has them. Irvins are heavy and very warm, but they look awesome zipped won or halfway up as well.
As for the color: I personally prefer russet when it...
At the ELC popup store I had a chance to try on their A-10 - not for me, too thick lining for low altitude flying. But then, I tried the 1942 pattern summer flying gloves. PERFECT! They are so beautifully made, fit like - well, like a glove :) - and I love the material and craftsmanship. I will...
I have the Alpha VF-59, and the knits are not olive, they are sage. I also prefer it for its slightly trimmer fit.
Of course, I removed the Remove Before Flight tag, and added a sage velcro loop on the right chest so I can wear it with patches.
I was wearing it on my first solo flight in my...
This thread brigs up a very interesting question. My 3 days old ELC Star A-2 is definitely in the "gem" phase now, and will remain there for long, because it cost a month's salary (yeah, Eastern Europe...)
This being said, I would probably try to find a healthy balance. After all, 70 years ago...
Brett, you got yourself a deal! At least I know it will be in good hands :)
Patching it up is a great idea - they look awesome, but it's something that I wouldn't do to an Eastman. Please send me a PM with the shipping address and we can also discuss payment methods.
Strictly non smoking! I haven't smoked a single cigarette in my life. The cuffs don't really need replacing in my view, but it's up to you. I can send more pictures of them if you like. Also, when I get home I will measure the length of the back with and without the knit.
After a visit to the ELC popup store, I'm finally a proud owner of the jacket of my dreams. Thank you all for your help I got in my other thread. Let me share some thoughts and pictures.
1) The store.
Paradise on Earth. Seeing all those beautiful jackets in one place made my eyes dwell up with...
Cockpit USA "WWII issue" A-2 Horsehide in good condition. Size 36Long, but I would say it's a 38/40. I'm 184 cm tall, 75 kg.
Shoulder: 18.5
Pit to pit: 21.5
Length: 25
Sleeve (without knits): 25.5
It was used to fly in airplanes so there is some wear (a lot like on the ELC Escape jacket), as...
