A quick application won't do squat. At the very least, you need to soak overnight, in the warmest water the fabric can tolerate. Unless the fabric has some serious degradation, Oxyclean won't destroy your vintage stuff - unless you soak multiple items together and one of them isn't colorfast...

Actually, I don't see this at all. The more time your hands spend on and around your scalp, the more of the natural oils from your hands deposit into your hair.

I wouldn't use a pre-mixed oil. You need to be able to mix an oil formulation that's right for your skin and your needs.
I can't imagine doing a hair set between tasks, especially if setting lotion was used.

Yeah, I mean, no set is going to hold through a night of friction with your pillowcase and tossing and turning. Even just tying a scarf around your hair before you go to bed will help keep a lot of the curl in.

Many Rowenta brand irons can do vertical steam shots (meaning you can steam an item that's hanging up). Rowenta irons produce a ton of steam and are the best for regular pressing as well (especially if you do sewing). At least over here, you can get a decent one for about $70.
Well there's a yahoogroup called freecycle, usually one for most major cities. Many people who get something for free from the group play it forward and return by posting something of their own to the group in return.
