    Ruining vintage stuff :(

Oh, you mean it's to keep things from running, not to remove dyes that have run into other clothes? This can also be done with salt.

1940's Babydoll Pumps size 7 AAA

How I wish these weren't narrow (though 2.75" isn't that narrow for a AAA size)! Ladies, someone needs to buy these so they don't end up on Feebay for any old shmuck to buy! $45 is a steal for a pair of green shoes like this!

    Ruining vintage stuff :(

Do you boil it or anything? Or just a handwash in the sink? Is it safe for non-colorfast fabrics? I tried the dye remover last night. Worked well on the white tshirt but completely stripped the dye out of my pink pedal pushers without really removing any of the orange dye that had bled into...

Beautiful set! Looks like celluloid to me. I would take them to someone who specializes in antiques and jewelry restoration to see what they can do with it.

Can you help me date this item??

That's exactly what I thought. It reminds me of a lot of the Coro costume jewelry from that same time period.

Are YOU a Brylcreem Boy..? What's the TOPS in hairdressings?

Any real man who wants to grease back his hair needs to ditch the Brylcreem and go for the real grease - Murray's, NuNile, Sweet Georgia Brown, Dixie Peach....

    Girdles, Corsets, and Underpinnings

In theory I like the idea of Spanx, but they're expensive and ugly and I just can't bring myself to wear them. Also, any time that I would want to be wearing shapewear, I would also want to be wearing stockings. There is a distinct lack of shapewear products on the market that give you the...

Is the Carbona dye remover safe to use on colored items? Or just whites?

Interesting info, thanks. It's definitely very heavy and scratchy, and I always associate flannel with softness.

    Pincurl Structure?

There is already a HUGE thread here all about pincurls - http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=4254 There are many smaller ones too. I'm pretty sure you'll find the answers you're looking for in one of those threads. -- Personally, I find it easiest to curl my hair around...

    Ruining vintage stuff :(

This sounds like a good candidate for an Oxyclean soak. A knit item shouldn't have any problems with that, and a good long soak will usually get out yellow stains. I'm at it again! I just spilled coffee all over myself and a 50s cotton sundress that I'm wearing today. At least this one is a...

    Ruining vintage stuff :(

Thank you! My mom has told me that boiling it in dish soap and colorsafe bleach should work, or soaking it in Biz for 3 days. I'll try anything to save this baby!

How often do you "set" your hair?

No, I meant at the end of the day, repinning your curls (which you set the night before) and then wrapping it before you go to sleep. Also, try doing a dry set on dirty hair. If I do any type of set, wet or dry, on freshly washed hair, I won't even get an hour out of my set.

Whenever I wear it out and have to sit down, I will be perpetually terrified of busting off those rear buttons!

A few more things. Black 50s cardi I picked up for $15 at the Rumblers car show in NYC a few weeks back. Lovely satin covered buttons and beaded collar. I'm pleased to find a cardi with minimal beading. I love the heavily beaded ones but really prefer something plain I can wear every day...

    Ruining vintage stuff :(

#^%#! It's ruined. The lovely light blue linen 50s dress with soutache on the bodice and skirt front. Nice swathes of orange dye all over. I've worn it once. I guess I'll try soaking it again on its own. Anyone ever used dye remover on vintage?

How often do you "set" your hair?

Try 100% Lottabody. Many gals here have never had any luck diluting it. Also, have you tried to pin up and wrap your hair before going to bed?
