Really? All the hat pins I've seen are quite a bit thicker than a safety pin. I'm resurrecting another thread on hat pins to post some photos of some of my grandma's pins that I rediscovered last night. A small step backwards on the buses
It's kind of like a button only it's a slightly raised strip that you push. Often strips will be placed vertically between rows or seats, of horizontally at the level of the bottom of the windows. So actually, it's not really like a button at all lol- KittyT

Before and After?

Err... Flaky Lips?
Another thing you can try to prevent the flakiness is to put on just a tiny bit of gloss (not petrolatum-based, as that breaks down lipstick) on top of your lipstick and then blot. It won't give you that shiny glossy look, but will definitely help keep your lips from feeling dry too quickly.
