Today's Pinup Fashion a Sly Wink to the Past - New York Times

Just happened to find another article this morning. One more example of the "male gaze" in action. Not Everyone Is Amused By ASUS' Ogling Of Booth Model's Butt I get that they were trying to be clever and a little cheeky...er, forgive the pun. But you can see that someone, somewhere in...

I Wish The Lounge Had A Chat Channel.. Does Anyone Else??

Congratulations on your creation and I wish you the best of luck! I had also thought a chatroom would be neat, but the longer I stick around the lounge, the more I appreciate our current set-up. I guess it's just not my thing. [huh]

The lost art of dressing for the occasion

The only people that attend my "church" already know to dress appropriately. But to answer the question further, I would say that it is not a gentleman's place to make a stranger unnecessarily uncomfortable in public, especially about their clothing. Now if this were a friend, I...

Hmm do you think Brooks Bros. is regretting the Thom Browne fiasco???

Ploy n. A cunning plan or action designed to turn a situation to one's own advantage. Oh, I don't know...hate to be pedantic but...

    Plaid fedoras: yea or nay?

Fabric stingy brim fedora-style hats have been around since at least the '20's - doesn't mean they were popular, though. Personally, no fabric for me unless it's a wool walking hat, and even then I'll likely stick with my fur felts.

The general decline in standards today

And 9 times out of 10, people are standing around like him with their mouths open pointing at an empty "vault", wondering. They should have just woke up the poor guy that fell asleep, or pulled the emergency cord. Instead, they cry wolf and get a chair to the face. A very mediocre chair at that.

What's cookin', boss? (mmm...as long as the pot is full of stew or chili, they can stir all they like.) :hungry: :nerd:

The lost art of dressing for the occasion

Yes, I believe there is a convention for church services - one's "Sunday Best". If your family must cut cardboard to fit into the soles of your shoes because you're too poor to buy a new pair, then by all means, come to church in your best pair of "holy" shoes (I couldn't resist). It's not what...

The lost art of dressing for the occasion

There is no rule to wear a cap and gown during your graduation ceremony. You're expected to wear them. No one will shut down the ceremony should you decide to remove them. There aren't any laws, there aren't any guards with guns, or nannies with paddles. You're an adult and you're expected to...

The lost art of dressing for the occasion

Granted, I was using an extreme example for the sake of everyone's eyes and brains (I get windy, afterall). But take the same situation - and the guy ahead walks up without his robe and hat wearing a pair of daisy dukes, a stained undershirt and jelly shoes. He's not doing anything but...

If I looked like these, I'd be on sale too.

I know, right? It's like they've totally mixed up "suit" and "tuxedo", and then spawned this nasty...thing. I imagine there is some groom running around in this abomination right now with a 55% poly/cotton point collar "poplin" shirt and a shiny purple tie/square. And he's thinking, "Man...

You know, as much as it hurts my eyes to look at, I kinda like it too. It would be great for a festive occassion. I think it's the difference in stripe size. The men's version is just BLAM in your face. The ladie's isn't so obnoxious (although...still pretty loud).

Haha, doesn't this just sum it up nicely? "We are blessed to be living in an age when we have a global communications network in which idiots, a**holes, and total and complete wastes of f*ing human life alike can come together to give instant feedback in an unfettered and unmonitored online...

Ah, leave the Germans alone. I think they've done right well for themselves this go around. America spawns more dictators than Germany, anyway. Besides, if I was worried about anyone, it would be the Greeks and only because they've had blatantly active forces trying to turn the conversation from...

    Sweat band causing miscoloring

Yep, this is something that has been discussed from time to time on here. You might want to look through the following links. You should also look through the Step-by-step Naphtha link under the Important threads sticky if you plan to clean the hats of any other gunk. How long does the modern...

tsk tsk, you silly idealist. (Wouldn't that be nice? I mean just once being able to read an objective article and make a decision on your own. Anymore, you have to read both sides of the slant and try to read between both set of lines just to see what's even being "reported".)

The lost art of dressing for the occasion

I guess let's put it this way - Let's say you're attending a graduation ceremony at a school that has a significant portion of Polish Jews. You sit down with your family, you're waiting through all the names, and just before your graduate is called, the guy in front of him walks up on stage...

How about this semi-formal abomination: Signature 3-Button Notch Lapel Tuxedo I'm not claiming Jos.A.Bank is "high end", but they're certainly in the business of creating/selling suiting. You would think they should know better than to sell that thing.
