Have a read through the Jeans thread - plenty of good information in there. Any of the Levi's Vintage Classic (LVC) reproductions would go well, and have a look at Aero again as they have possibly the best online selection of Levi and Lee repro jeans in Europe. A little closer to home for you is...
Fantastic, thanks for that one. I've never thought to look for the Treniers on You Tube so I've got some downloading to iTunes to do this morning.
Speaking of You Tube there are plenty of Louis Jordan clips to enjoy.
I don't know what it's called, but the jacket in that colour is a winner. So is that the final choice?
My Barnstormer took just over 5 weeks - it was worth the wait, but that extra waiting time was painful.
Yep, I think the Half Belt is a nicer looking jacket too - I prefer the plain waist. As for lining material, I've got a FQHH Barnstormer with the cotton drill lining and the combination is very warm. The leather is wind- and waterproof and even in the cold snap we had in south-east England...
Fine cotton the same colour as the shoes.
I had a chat with Mr. Lansky in May 2003 when I was in Memphis for the opening of the Stax Museum. I'd just bought a Memphis Mafia shirt from the Clothier To The King range in the shop to the left of the entrance, and I wandered into the other shop...
Now that is a beauty, much nicer IMHO than the first one you posted. If you're not particularly interested in military wear (and I get the impression from your photos and from when we met at the Lounge Dinner last year that you're not) that last jacket would be far more suitable.
And if you want even more you can't go far wrong with Ace Records:
- general Various Artists compilations
- Excello compilations
- Individual label comps - not all R&B on this page as it also includes a few soul labels, but R&B comps for Dootone, Class/Rendezvous, Ram, Domino, Ebb, Modern...
Oh, yes, that's great, and it covers the early soul years as well. I love the Little Richard advert for Royal Crown hairdressing - "...even Long Tall Sally use it..."
I must get Volume 2.
There are three volumes in the Jiving Jamboree series on Ace, all highly recommended.
Another great honkin' tenor compilation is The Big Horn - a 3-CD set on the UK Proper label.
Possibly the most interesting series is Stompin', a long series (up to Volume 33 last time I looked) of very...
There used to be three original 40s and 50s diners in London, but only one is left now - Fatboy's near Canary Wharf:
I took some photos of the interior, which you can see here. If you've seen the Gwyneth Paltrow film Sliding Doors you might recognise this place, as it featured in a few...
Estelle - I've just found these, which I think cost £250, don't know if they're any good:
Made by a French company called n.d.c. - there's a list of UK stockists here.
I would guess that many of the posters recommending non-cycling specific helmets don't actually ride a bike very often...
Your head can get very hot while riding, and a fully enclosed helmet would quickly lead to overheating. I sweat enough with a proper cycling helmet, with plenty of...
More 100% merino wool retro cycle jerseys...
I've just found these classic looking merino wool jerseys from Endura - a nice affordable price as well at £59.99 for short sleeves and £64.99 for long sleeves:
Starvin' Marvin's is on the A40 - from the Ace head south on the A406 North Circular to the Hangar Lane roundabout, then get on the A40 westbound. The diner is about a mile from the roundabout, just past the Hoover building and next to a BP petrol station. It's about 3-4 miles from the Ace, and...
Not Goodyear welted, and quite lightweight, but these at least come in a size 13 and aren't too expensive - white brogues from Johnson Shoemakers at £85 +£5 postage:
I'm in Staines, just west of Heathrow airport. I haven't been in the Ace for a while and the only time I'm in that area is if I'm going to IKEA. Have you been to Starvin' Marvin's, the US diner near the Hoover building?
Rocacha have been in business since 1980 and the same guy is still running it - he knows his stuff. Not everyone can afford wool so polyester is an affordable compromise, and making suits in polyester doesn't mean that their wool stuff is shoddy.
