Would you believe I threw away two jackets and two overcoats like that in the late 80s during a house move - there wasn't enough wardrobe space in the new house, they were cheap when I bought them (I paid maybe £10 or £15 each for the jackets, £25 each for the coats), and I hadn't worn them...
On The Waterfront from 1954 would be a good source for 50s clothing ideas. Tons of blue-collar wear, plus some sharp suits worn by Johnny Friendly and Charlie the Gent, and a few fedoras as well. There's a 10-photo gallery on imdb.com for starters http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047296/photogallery
Aww, you guys ... :o
Yes, pics of the McGregor please Mr. H. I wore my Drizzler today for the first time this year - lovely spring weather in SE England.

...but they don't seem to be available in the UK, which isn't much help is it...
How do they look with the jacket?
You'll only need to wash them in a short, cold wash, just enough to shrink the denim. If you like dark denim you won't want to lose too much of the dye yet. I bought a second pair of the 1933 501XX recently and washed them to shrink them to the right size...
The Bialetti I use is a different type to the usual Bialetti stove-top espresso maker, and really is a percolator, where the water bubbles up a central tube then drips down over the grounds to give you coffee in the bottom of the pot. Bialetti just make it to look like their espresso makers...
I use a new percolator, rather than a vintage one, but the method is the same. You'll need to experiment for a while to get it right - the right amount of coffee grounds to water, the right amount of time to let the water seep through the grounds - but once it's right it's every bit as good as a...
Wonderful film, and the look of the cyclist, Champion, seemed to be based on Italian cycling legend Fausto Coppi, which made me love the film even more:
It depends what sort of jackets you're looking for - for British menswear try:
- Radio Days near Waterloo, not a great selection for men, but you can sometimes get lucky;
- Bertie Wooster at 284 Fulham Road, SW10 9EW, tel: 020 7352 5662, lots of tweed and wool suits and jackets;
- Old...
Rather than take up any more space in the American Crew... pomade thread I've started this thread to wallow in some collective nostalgia for the retro/vintage/club scene in London in the early 1980s. I know the inimitable GOK was around town then, and if any other Brit Loungers of a certain age...
(Even more O/T)
...and the Dirtbox, and the Beat Route, live gigs by the Chevalier Brothers, buying The Face and ID religiously every month, hanging around Kensington Market ... happy times.
The only thing that I've got left from Demob is one of those Willie Brown hooded anoraks with the...
O/T, and apologies to everyone, but blimey, that's not a name you see much these days (at least not in this context), and it brought a big smile to my face.
I suppose I'd better explain that cryptic remark - Demob was a clothes shop in Soho, in central London, that was open for a couple of...

Hi Paul, welcome along, I'm sure you'll have a good time in the Lounge. It's always nice to see more Brits joining in.
You said in your intro that you get most of your clothes made - where do you go, if you don't mind me asking? Do you have a local tailor that understands what you want, or do...
