Classic style but I doubt any official purpose other than perhaps some civilian role. Anything more formal would surely have had provision for greater adornment so beloved of uniformed organisations.
If you mean the outside one then I have a couple of odd jackets with them and am happy with that. Not however on more formal coats.
If you mean the inside ticket pocket then I find these essential and have two at least in every coat - either one either side or even two on each side.
He is as thrifty - though the press has not latched on to it ( and that is the only reason we are discussing this at all) many of his suits are old and I suspect go back to his grandfather, His Late Majesty, King George VI.
there is no such thing as a free lunch - nor a decent cheap suit. No label or other testament and they seem as much concerned on the packaging as the garment's attributes. Leave Amazon to sell books and other defined goods not see them as decent outfitter.
Why? A church is the last place that formality should required for your god. True, congregations make up their own rules but they are the ghouls that attend without really understanding the true significance of what they are singing/muttering/thinking about.
All forgiving deities of any type...
At the present time suits are of diminishing relevance in business.
That said they still command their place and should not be dismissed. What should be said is that one cannot hold on to the past, it if goes then let it, life evolves.

As a point of note, omitting this button hole was quite common with many tailors in Yorkshire - virtually no Sheffield or Leeds tailor (when there were some) would volunteer that feature.
Rather silly rule really and I am NOT the vendor.
Whilst more interested parties might drive the price why is an auction the preserve of those fortunate enough to land upon it? This is the first belt back I have seen in 18 months on the particular categorisation I use on eBay to check auctions.
