Help me identify this black DB jacket - Merchant Marine?

Classic style but I doubt any official purpose other than perhaps some civilian role. Anything more formal would surely have had provision for greater adornment so beloved of uniformed organisations.

Help identifying unique Polish thrift-store find?

No that is a proper ticket pocket inside the coat - they do not have to be on the outside.

Your thoughts on pant cuffs, if you would be so kind?

2" cuffs. No arguements or question against this specification

    Ticket Pocket

If you mean the outside one then I have a couple of odd jackets with them and am happy with that. Not however on more formal coats. If you mean the inside ticket pocket then I find these essential and have two at least in every coat - either one either side or even two on each side.

    Prince Philip's pants

He is as thrifty - though the press has not latched on to it ( and that is the only reason we are discussing this at all) many of his suits are old and I suspect go back to his grandfather, His Late Majesty, King George VI.

    Prince Philip's pants

Good luck to the man - why on earth should he not do so? This is an old piece of news from a month ago anyway.

Suit Question Related to Previous Thread

there is no such thing as a free lunch - nor a decent cheap suit. No label or other testament and they seem as much concerned on the packaging as the garment's attributes. Leave Amazon to sell books and other defined goods not see them as decent outfitter.

    Marks and Spencers without doubt.

    1940's Jacket?

A awful looking thing but 1960s at its worst - or best if you like that.

Is the suit relevant in your life?

Why? A church is the last place that formality should required for your god. True, congregations make up their own rules but they are the ghouls that attend without really understanding the true significance of what they are singing/muttering/thinking about. All forgiving deities of any type...

Is the suit relevant in your life?

At the present time suits are of diminishing relevance in business. That said they still command their place and should not be dismissed. What should be said is that one cannot hold on to the past, it if goes then let it, life evolves.

    Show us your suits

It would be interesting to be of Chinese origin from that period. Can you tell us more about the detailing - inside the jacket pockets and lining etc, labels. Trousers - are they button fly, high waist side seem or slant pockets, how many back pockets, how do they fasten, lined trousers...

    I hate the 2000's

I certainly agree that they should give up worrying about dress codes and concentrate on teaching the written language.

    Lined Trousers?

Where have you been hiding? Most decent wool trousers are lined, even those from modest stores. I cannot recall the last time I saw a pair without.

    Suit design failure

As a point of note, omitting this button hole was quite common with many tailors in Yorkshire - virtually no Sheffield or Leeds tailor (when there were some) would volunteer that feature.

    Belt back for someone?

Rather silly rule really and I am NOT the vendor. Whilst more interested parties might drive the price why is an auction the preserve of those fortunate enough to land upon it? This is the first belt back I have seen in 18 months on the particular categorisation I use on eBay to check auctions.

    Suit design failure

Why not go back to you tailor/cutter and have him put one in? He should not charge you for such a minor change.
