Costume probably, possibly uniform but does not have the (false) gravitas associated with such uniform. The cheap nature of the construction suggests the former.

The pockets may be used for a watch and other off small item gathered during the day but not otherwise. The coat has adequate pockets which are less obtrusive.

I would see no great problem with it. It is your wedding and your call, no one else's - and it is a damn sight better than those that wear evening dress for a daytime wedding.
