To add to another thread can you tell me what pockets both trousers and jacket (inside ) have please? This to add to what we know about pockets and dating.
I agree the front pocket and no back pocket arrangement does work well. I try to stick with it as often as I can - which is not enough really, hence having two normally. Maybe I should try harder as well!
Fletch - "Can we assume cross-Atlantic influence, given the influx of Yanks in the 40s?"...
I would not argue about 1940s garments at all - RTW from the latter part of the decade especially. Remember that there was the demob suit which was issued to those leaving the army and made to a standard specification and I would suspect that suits sold otherwise would have tended to conform...
Are you talking of an English made suit? - I would assume so given that you are from West Yorkshire.
Whilst there was no firm rule it would be very common for a suit not to have a back pocket in the trousers at that time. This would equally apply to RTW or MTM/bespoke which was a very...
Copying does not have to be destructive at all - but it does have to have a good eye both to see what is there and replicate in something to fit you.

Front and rear views with coat on standing up
Front and rear without coat on for the trousers
the inside of the coat...
Yes it is.. That is the more common one at this time but I agree that those favouring bespoke tailors may have been more advanced in their thoughts that the RTW merchants.

That looks one hell of a good suit and a pretty good fit. If I might say so as a long hair myself - your hair complements it well - you appear very imposing.
I would suspect that the date is genuine. All the visible details look right - high back and pockets etc.. One other sign is...
Why ever not buy a black suit?
You will find views polarised on this one and any attempt to count the votes merely represents whoever responds.
Make your own mind up on this one, they are a quite normal part of men's everyday wardrobes now.
I regret a great many do crap suits that fall to peices. They arev distiguished by the (usually Asian) touts that hassle people on Nathan 'copy watches' being their other line.
I have to say that the hygiene habits of the former owner would suggest to me that it is fit only for burning. Could not abide to wear it even after cleaning.
