The trousers illustrated by Sir RBH were certainly not mess waiter's trousers. the label suggests that the user was a "motor driver" from"Smithfield station". Probably a fire man.
This does help to lay the silly notion that some subscribe to that black suits are somehow wrong and should never be worn by ordinary people going about their ordinary lives!
I doubt it has the implied overtones you suggest.
However can you post some more pictures of its features - or at least describe them.
For example inside the jacket - what pockets (and style) does it have, full lining I assume.
Rear - vented?
Trousers again pockets front/side rear...
In the humidity of Beijing hats and ties were simply a stupid idea especially given the amount of standing around for the athletes.
the UK contingent looked smart, modern without being extreme and above all practical.
Nothing kind.
Pretty cheap stuff justified because PRL was 'donating' some huge sponsorship fee.
Like all these things burn them as quickly as possible after.
Like so many things the USA knows how to do it badly.
Oscar
looking good. When you have chance to put up some more pictures I'll gather my thoughts for what they are worth:
Can you do the
rear view of each without the coat,
a profile with and without coat
and the inside of each coat
please.
This is fantastic project so well...
It depends where your trousers came from. American ones tended to have two but UK very frequently did not much of the time. After the war some had one but a gentlemen having them made would have none - still the case for some today. In the photgraphs the grey suit did not appear to have them...
Hi Oscar
Both suits are coming togther well.
You seem to have a reasonable rise in the troursers - do you intend to wear them with braces (suspenders)? You could certainly have had them slightly higher or had a fishtail back but they will still look good. I think your judgement is...
Pity she did not get pictures without the jacket from front and rear - the fit of the trousers is so often neglected.
I think you are right about the sleeve length so stand firm. Your view on the arm holes was also correct.
Maybe you parents will simply pay the bill....
Apart from the very small photographs which do very little to help your posts - this looks quite new - certainly thirty years north of your aspiration for it Sorry.
