The Peninsular is one of the best hotels in the former colony - well worth staying at. It even uses Rolls Royces to collect and deliver guests to the airport!
William Yu is one of the three top tailors for craftsmanship as well.
The suit therefore is good for that money.
Oh dear.
I had thought it some sort of hic suit from the far past. If it is new then I fear I would have to be quite rude about the jacket (sleeve length and general 'fit') as well as the trousers which quite apart from the peculiar style are wierd.
However it ill behoves any of us to...
Trousers with high rise for braces - and enormous belt loops. Very rustic.
The strap around the back of the trousers is quite weird too. Whilst a short one centre back is quite normal especially in quintessential English trousers from the Row this one is not something I have seen or would...
This is the second suit from this guy to be reported here as a travesty of what was intended in two weeks. He has a serious problem and seem totally untrustworthy.
Does it have neither back pocket(s) or cash/watch pocket in the trousers?
How many inside pockets in the jacket.
I am looking to detail a repro for ordering in the autumn so comment on the details of a guenuine British 1940s suit would be welcome. I plan to get it as close to original...
Is this suit English. It is not a watch pocket rather a 'cash' pocket typically found on English made suits. The idea being that either treasury notes or even a small wallet could be kept in it and easily retrieved by the whole hand.It is/was a common alternative to the back pocket.
Amusing - and always a good reason to look at some of the suits in the collection.
One thing is notable - without exception the coats only have one inside breast pocket. A particularly correct observation on detail of at least English suits of the time.
Any thoughts on this aspect?
Its good to get aa tailor who follows your instructions. Did you go for just the one inside pocket as this suggests - a true mark of an older coat.
Can you post some more views of the detailing that you refer to please?
Sir RBH!
How high is the rise in relation to the navel at the front and indeed how much greater is it at the rear?
It looks unusual without the coat in modern terms but with it looks excellent - and I guess comfortable?
Are you going to do the full range of views - it is good to see the results of such an obviously well researched and specified suit.
Trousers without jacket from front and rear (usually neglected), jacket inside both views as well as the undoubtedly glorious views of you wearing it.
Ray
Interesting to see the extra pictures and to hear of your experience. Do you think that if you had gone in with every detail written down that they would have made a 'good' suit or merely one which as you say reflects the $80 you paid?
Do you have any views of the inside of the jacket...
