Twilight Zone Marathon July 4th Sci-Fi Channel

The gremlin episode was also spoofed on an episode of the Simpsons. Bart tried to convince "Otto man" that something was on the school bus. I like that episode with Burgess, as a voracious reader I can totally identify. Another great episode which is timely is the one where that guy built a bomb...

Twilight Zone Marathon July 4th Sci-Fi Channel

"To serve man" always bugged my friend. It was kind of disturbing with "Lurch" as the alien. The one episode that scared me as a kid was the one with Will Shatner on the plane. I always imagined that Gremlin outside my window at night. My all time favorite was with Agnes Moorehead. She played...

    Show us your Guns!

Hard to believe he played Moses, he could have armed all those Israelites with his collection ! It's sad that that collection will be auctioned off (?). I hope it will be in some museum where people like us can see them.

    6th of June 1944 Normandy

I always remember June 5th being an AB buff. In the photo of the Paratroopers the man 3rd from the left has a bullet hole through the top of his helmet. In his book Currahee Don mentions how Alvarez (?) got it. Don mentions how after a firefight Alvarez sat there rocking back and forth holding...

    Speed Graphic pics.

Awesome photos ! If it weren't for some of the contemporaries in the shots I would swear they were circa 1940s. I tried BW with a 35mm years ago it didn't have the same feel. I tried different ASAs they did not seem to work. I was trying to get some grainy shots with 400 but that did not work...

    Severn Valley Railway 1940s Weekends - June 28, 29, & July 5, 6, 2008

My friend and I always said England is Re-enactor / Historian heaven. Whether it's your Civil War or WWII it always seem your country really takes it's History seriously. This is a great example I wish I could be there to eat "Bubble and Squeak" and Mutton ! I can eat plenty of Spam here so I'll...

new "Band of Brothers" type movie on the 82nd AB

MrBern you are correct, the 505th and the 504th (82nd) both were in the Mediterranean. They both had extensive combat experience by Normandy. In fact the men of the 82nd looked down (naturally) at the 101st as a bunch of upstarts. Normandy was the 101st first combat. To muddle this even more the...

    WWII Films

I believe the Dana Andrews movie you are refering to was "A Walk in the Sun" a great movie. Sterling Holloway AKA "Winnie the Poo" plays a Medic in this Movie along with LLoyd Bridges AKA "Steve Nelson of "Sea Hunt" fame.

new "Band of Brothers" type movie on the 82nd AB

Most people don't realize that the 82nd has a bigger battle record than the 101st. The 82nd had made combat jumps in the Italian Campaign a year before Normandy. There is a part in BOB that kind of annoys me in "Day of Days" Winters comes across some 82nd guys. The scene implies that the 82nd...

Any old radio stations in LA?

Unfortunately it seems only Satelite is the way to go. I don't listen to the radio enough to justify getting it. So it's CDs for me it's cheap though who want's to listen to Glenn Miller's War time broadcasts in German ?

    belt up

Definately WWII or before, there should be a date on the back. About 1943-44 the color was standardized to OG #7 which is a darker Green. If you paid around 50-60 bucks you did OK. I had a mint condition 1943 ammo belt that my brothers cat used for a litter box :rage: . It is ruined now but I...

Old Gas pumps cant handle new pricing

I remember walking to the gas station with a quarter and a gas can and getting a couple pennies back that was Mowing the lawn in the 60s. In High School it was 52 cents a gallon for our 8 track installed gas guzzlers. Those were the days of 10 cent candy bars and Cokes (no CRV either !) yep...

    Sci-fi, past and present

Funny last year I really got into buying 1950s Sci-Fi . My Son worked at DVD Planet and got breaks on movies. I had him buying all these corny Sci-Fi's for me. Yes shades of Sat mornings before Cable TV !

    Sci-fi, past and present

I bought 1st and 2nd seasons of the "Outer Limits" the 60s B&W versions. They had some great episodes with actors who were not yet big. Some of the creatures were laughable because of the rubber masks. Special effects have come a long way since then. Another series from that time is "One Step...

    New Spielberg Movie ?

I read another post that he was making another SPR or BOB type war movie. Rumor has it it will be based on the book by E.B. Sledge "With the old Breed". This was/is a great book I read back in the 80's. They said it is being filmed in Australia complete with a full scale mock up of Henderson...

    Flash your Zippo lighter here

I use Zippos because I have a problem refilling those butane jobs. I put more butane on my fingers than in my lighter. Zippos are cool anyways I have one I found at work 30 years ago and still have it. I broke it years ago doing the old 50s tough guy routine. I snapped the lid off opening it...

    Kokoda (WWII Australians vs. Japanese)

Great ! can't wait to see it ! After the Movie comes out no doubt the sale of Lithgow Enfields will skyrocket. Glad I have mine, I read about this in a comic book as a kid. Brutal conditions disease and starvation and the "Stairway" my hats off to the Aussies.

    The Three Stooges Collection

What guy who grew up in the 60-70s who didn't love the Stooges ! I have a bunch of rare ones on BETA taped in the 80s. I've been trying to find a Beta Player to get them transfered to VHS. Luckily my favorite episode is on DVD "We want our Mummies" with King "Rootin' Tootin' !

    Russian re-enacting.

The Russians had a cool way to clear minefields. They had soldiers who shirked their duties and put them in "Penalty Battalions". They would make the shirkers link arms and walk across minefields. To say the Russians were motivated soldiers is an understatement !
