Oh, purses! The only one I have is from the 50's; inappropriate for 1939 but there you are. I'll just say I was ahead of my time. ;)
I've got to run out and get some nylons tomorrow--hopefully seamed. All this last minute stuff!
I went to this exhibit on Mr. Bern's recommendation and it is superb. If you're in the NYC area please make an effort to attend. I'm really looking forward to the day I have some time to spend in that museum generally too-it's a hidden gem.
Good question. I took a look at the AFI list of 100 "greatest" to jog my memory. http://connect.afi.com/site/DocServer/100Movies.pdf?docID=301
Raging Bull and Taxi Driver (odd because I love Martin Scorsese)
The Searchers
Bridge on the River Kwai
Bonnie and Clyde
Unforgiven
I've walked...
"Remember the Night (1940) with Barbara and Fred MacMurray. He plays a D.A. prosecuting Barbara for shoplifting (if you see the bracelet she pinches, you can’t blame her) who ends up taking her home for an old-fashioned Christmas."
One of my all time favorite films, that. The credits on...
I got a new one! (I posted this on another thread where it doesn't really belong...) Lee Pace is on the show "Pushing Daisies" (very Amelie-esque, watch it!), playing a pie-maker with a special, but distancing power. He was on the wonderful-but-canceled-early "Wonderfalls" a few years back. Lee...
Oh, I'm so glad to hear you're coming after all Lauren! Hurrah!
I'm picking up pretty much every vintage dress I own from the dry cleaners tonight; tomorrow night is packing and Thursday morning I'm flying to CA--I can't believe it!
I wish I could post a picture of my dress for the Queen Mary but I want to keep it a secret until the event.
I had a heartstopping moment when I thought I cut one of the pieces the wrong way (shiny side up not down) but thank God I did it correctly because I had barely enough fabric as it...
I lost my head a bit during my lunch break today and bought some gaudy, gaudy shoes for the Sat. night dinner on the Queen Mary.
The heel is too thin to be really vintage (and I hope I don't break my neck in them!) but the front and back of the shoe is vaguely 30's looking. I'm wearing a...
It's so Disney but I love The Rocketeer too--great movie poster, I used to have a copy. Great cast and feel for the era. Terry O'Quinn as Hughes stands out particularly in my mind.
Good job! Slow and steady is the way to go (however frustratiing it might be at times). You'll have your hands happily full taking in all your clothes.
I loved loved loved those Estelle Ansley Worrell books as a teenager--I wonder if she's still around? Her book on making dollhouse furniture is fun too. I made some of the stuff from her books and I remember the patterns going together very well but that it was designed for barbies (tiny...
I'm in a blind panic about what to bring; I'm tempted to just pack every vintage thing I own and sort it out on the boat!
I've got about 4 vintage dresses that need to go to the dry cleaners tomorrow.
My evening dress is mostly done but I need to finish the hem. I'm really thinking of...
I was WAY into Gene at one time (though only on the second hand market--far too expensive new). I've got a couple of the Silkstone Barbies (does Robert Best still design them?) and I love the Brenda Starr series by Robert Tonner. I've got a couple of the Daphne Dimples dolls from that series--I...
It sure does! It looks like one of those 1940's paperdolls where they stuck the celebrity's head onto a body.
I was going to post about this catalog too; drove me to theivery it did (I feel somewhat better because the girl it was addressed to in my building had moved out, but still...)...
I love this picture--too funny. Is the gal a Lounger? She looks amazing, but I especially want those beautiful shoes she has on (looks like she had tiny feet; bet she's got an amazing shoe collection).
I have my grandmother's yearbooks from 1926-1930--a great peek into small town America. My grandmother and her best friend, Aggie Oleson, are standing/sitting next to each other in every club picture--it's very sweet. I'll try to scan a few pictures sometime. It's very true that you can pick...
