Vintage saves the day!
So, this morning I've got the bird washed, stuffed, seasoned--ready for the kitchen twine to do the trussing. Where is that twine, anyway? Gone--that's where! Every twine-substitute in my house contained polyester; since melted plastic was not on the menu I didn't want...
Old movies--no doubt!
I grew up staying up for the late show, then I'd go to the library and read up on the studios, the stars, costume design, set design, portrait photography, etc. Each book would lead me to another book, which would lead me to another movie to track down in a near...
I adored the look of that movie. Your post also made me wonder whatever happened to Penelope Ann Miller? She and Ian MacKellen were quite enjoyable in that film.
In Minneapolis it was practically a rite of passage when I was growing up to go to Murray's for the first time. Garrison Keillior wrote about this in Time Magazine.

I love the fiberglass cows out front too--Route One is a cheezy delight with the sign for the Leaning Tower of Pizza, Karl's Sausage Kitchen, and so many more.

According to Wikipedia "It should be pointed out that while most name books list the meaning of Sarah as "princess", sometimes translated as Goddess, the literal translation of the name is "princess of all"." So there! ;) Does it fit me? I suppose so but it's hard to...
How could I have forgotten Stage Door and Bringing Up Baby? I haven't seen it in a million years but I loved Kid Millions with Eddie Cantor too. Ethel Merman looks like she's 12 years old in that--she's so young!
Until the middle of my college years I was so shy it was practically pathological. The title of that Monty Python sketch "How Not to be Seen" would be a good heading for that period in my life. I think this was partially because I am an only child who grew up with a mother who was/is...
Well, I'd best figure it out quick since today I got roped into cooking Thanksgiving dinner for several of my friends who aren't traveling! Did a huge shopping trip tonight.
I usually do the butter/wine basting thing over cheesecloth for the turkey, no brining for me. I use a friend's...
Gosh, so many, but off the top of my head:
1931
Platinium Blonde Jean Harlow, Loretta Young and Robert Williams (I think he would have been a huge star had he not died so young); this is an early Frank Capra
1933
Topaz John Barrymore, Myrna Loy
Little Women Katharine Hepburn...
Thanks for posting the link to this commercial--now that was retro done right! I loved spotting the films they lifted the scenes from, Bandaras was perfect casting and it was great to see Twiggy too. I think my favorite bit was "Clothes! Clothes! Clothes!"
On a related note, the song...
