Gray day!
Thanks, Alan. The world of hats I find endlessly fascinating. On this one, J.J.'s doesn't put the maker's label in, but it could be Roche. This one is from beaver belly. Silkiest hand I've ever experienced in my short hat journey.
Could be a straw day, but I was in the mood for my Spanish 100x. Sorry about the huge size. I'll have to figure out how to reduce on the iPhone!

I've considered Open Roads, and they are plentiful. But I'm not at the point with my own steaming and reshaping abilities to change the cattleman's crease into a fedora crease. If there were phantom crease lines left over, it would bug me! I would end up taking it to JJ's. But I'll take...
I am waiting for a version of the modern Stratoliner that J.J. Hat Center in NYC has ordered. It's supposed to have an especially high quality of felt, and it will come open crown. I hear some colors are in already, but I'm waiting for silverbelly. I'm on their list to call ASAP when the...
Ghost, it looks fabulous! I have a rollable Borsalino that looks similar. Maybe I'll try packing it too some day.
I once asked the good folks in this thread about my limited collection. I didn't want to post the same hats over and over. They were very encouraging. Basically they said "Go...
Thanks for your advice, Stuff! After the photo I took, I played around with a more symmetrical shape. I actually liked it better. I'll do some photos later!
Thanks Che, Harv, Flatfoot, Rudie! I've begun to make contact! There are a few patterns I have in mind, and we'll see where it goes from here!
Che, thanks for making those Cordova videos! BTW, I grew up in the Los Angeles area, and later on I was stationed at Defense Language Institute back...
Thanks Zombie, Harv! Flatfoot, that's just what I had in mind - those retail caps as a test run - do caps suit me? I now know enough to go ahead and contact a custom maker. I was actually thinking of the three you mentioned!
Yeah that's a stiff brim. I was rolling it, but it kept snapping back. I'll work with it some more. It took us 3 days of wetting and shaping to get our Army berets into form, get rid of their natural atomic bomb shape. Thanks!

You guys have got me thinking about caps! I've never worn one. The closest I've come was my black beret in the Army while I was Intel with the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell back in the 1970s.
But I've got my eye on a few customs from the talented makers here. I'd love a leather sweat band...
I wear a hat every day now, and I get nice comments several times a week. Never got a negative or snarky comment. Many curious stares and double-takes. When I'm at a shop or a store like Best Buy, I seem to get better service. People treat me with more respect.
There's a Jamaican a...
