How to wear or redesign (post-) sixties knitwear and crochet?

Hello Ladies! I need your help with two items I recently got from my grandma. On Christmas, she came up with two self made pieces of her wardrobe: a knit white and turquoise cardigan and a crocheted light beige and silver sparkle dress. I forgot to ask when she made them, but they're...

What Have You Acquired From Family?

I guess Marla is right, but it still doesn't always work out. I keep on telling my grandma for years that she should at least show me anything she wants to get rid of before she throws it away. Still, she keeps on dumping clothes and other stuff that's in a good condition and tells me much later...

Adrian, the bangs just look grand on you! Seems like your face was made for this kind of style. (your cutie seems to think something of the like.. ;) ) This is what I got today (after I cut my hair the other night) (excuse the stare; I'm just not good at being photographed, even if the...

    Show Us Your Purchases!

I'm afraid they're probably not being sold in the US. They're from "b.p.c." (Bon Prix Collection originally http://tinyurl.com/37nm2su) and I got them on ebay (e.g. article No 270672114155). They're made in China - don't know if some American brand might sell them under a different label. Sorry. :(

What my grandmother told me about life in the 1940s.

It's the same with my grandma who was born in 1918. Stories about her youth are very often stories about the (pre-)war, which was the time for her to get off age, to marry and to get her first children. My grandparents' (and their whole generation's) traumatic experience of war is the main...

What interesting modern vintage have you found on the web?

That's true, unfortunately. Sometimes, Max Raabe does some swingy stuff, but not really. Also, some might claim Roger Cicero or Annett Louisan to have swing influences, but not everybody sees it that way. Just a small thing, but I don't think the singer is really German. He has a slight...

    Show us what you've made!

That's why I made it, I wanted one that has exactly my measurements, with all the bumps and flaws. Plus, it's way less expensive than a professional one. I used a German tutorial, but it should be useful for anyone cause it has pictures...

    Show us what you've made!

Inky, I admire your talent and your patience! You did such a great job on that purse! For further sewing, I forced my man (don't ask how:D ) to help me with this: We needed more than twice the amount of tape than recommended but I'm quite satisfied with the result - I was so happy...

    Long Vintage Hair

Hi Katinka, thanks so much for your reply! :o I'm in a rather small town, so it won't be easy to find a hairstylist who's able to do what I want. Plus, I'm not so anxious about experiment too much (hair does need a while to grow back..) I guess I rather stick to my regular hair dresser, at...

    Show us your vintage patterns!

Lauren, they are really cute, especially the first two. I love that bolero look, it will look great on you. Do you ladies think this kind of dress is wearable for a girl with a not so tiny waist (talking of myself, not of Lauren of course)? In all the pictures it's always worn by those sand...

    German magazine scans 1930s

Thanks! Frankly, I didn't expect an online shop (most small German shops are slow with that). Now I know where to go on my next Berlin visit. What a pity that I didn't know it earlier, I was in Berlin in August and it'll take me some time to get there again.

Need Help Picking 1950's US Comedy Film

House Boat (1958), a romantic comedy with Cary Grant and Sophia Loren I second The Court Jester and definitely Some Like it Hot! Sorry - this is totally off topic, but I can't keep it for myself: yesterday I got a wonderful huge book on Some Like it hot which has the complete original...

    German magazine scans 1930s

Is that a Berlin second hand shop? Do they only have men's or also ladies' stuff? Sorry for those basic questions, but I'm quite new to the whole vintage idea (and not sure yet how far I can or want to go into it). But I'd be really interested in knowing places where I could get some vintage...
