Wow, thanks a lot for the effort!
It seems pretty much like the magazines I have (called "Rundschau - Deutsches Schneiderfachblatt"), only that mine don't even have the offer to order patterns. Not that I'd make any difference for us today.
Probably to a tailor, the small sketches and the...
These are great impressions, thank you for sharing!
Are there any patterns in the magazines as well? I got some German mid 50s men's tailoring magazines, but unfortunately they don't have patterns - just some descriptions like the ones you posted.
I'd like to make something for my man once...
Hepkitty, no reason for worshipping! I'd be happy to do you a favor
(and a little happier if you really make some copies for me :)
I just wonder - does it make sense if my size differs a lot from yours?)
Just do be sure: this is the one you want, right?
FYI: You should know that...
I took that same diagram plus some photos of Lauren Bacall and Rita Hayworth to my hairdresser but she didn't really have any idea what I wanted. She gave me a layered cut with a soft U-shape. But with this cut, the curls didn't come out quite right. Psycho Sue gave me some ideas what went wrong...
This looks gorgeous on you! As if it was made for you. And a perfect combination with the white gloves.
Is the dotted belt part of the jacket or is it seperate?
Thanks for your congrats, ladies! Makes me enjoy it even more! :o
Some of the pattern cards have been cut out, but they are kept in a little pocket in the back of the book. I love the idea that my aunt's aunt (that's where the book originally came from) made the dresses and wore them. I wonder...
Just found another one on ebay (art.no. 270656360170, comes with measure). It says "from around 1920" which is not true, of course - It's the same edition I have, around 1940. The auction ends in 22 hours and is currently at 25,50 Euro.
Thanks all! I hoped you would be happy for me (my auntie couldn't really understand why I was so happy about it).
@HepKitty: Sure, but there really not so easy to get unless money is no issue for you. Often, they go up to about 100 Euro (about 140$) if they come with the special measure that...
What a find!
The other night, I was sitting on the sofa with my aunt, talking about clothing, sewing, vintage patterns aso. I told her enthusiastically about my 1956 Golden Rule pattern book, how much I love it, and how hard it is to get these books at a reasonable price.
For those who...
No, I just improvised. A rectangle, two circles, another smaller longer rectangle made into a little bag and 7 pom poms, all sewn together - that was about it. ;)
But I got to admit that it's sort of a prototype. I didnt think about how to close it properly and what to take for a lining before...
:offtopic:
Thanks for the idea. I tried many things (nothing really worked), but never honey on a regular basis. But tonight, I just had some tea with honey and I'm still sneezing...
I tried one of the shellac type - it still came off in just no time! I guess I'm simply no lipstick person. :(
(to be honest, my constant nose blowing - due to being allergic to pretty much everything you can imagine - might be a reason... lol )
That looks cute, congrats! :)
But can I ask a (probably stupid) question: What makes the difference between a white dress and a nurse's uniform? Are there any vital differences between a uniform pattern and a regular dress pattern? Is the little cap in the pattern, too?
You Ladies are so inspiring! :eusa_clap
These days, I keep thinking I need to MAKE something again.
It's been a while since I sewed a dress or did some crocheting like this hand bag:
(The head hosts the mobile phone.)
Now, I got so many new projects in mind but so little time.
So...
I always wanted something to read in my bathroom, but since it's so small and the only (tiny!) place to place anything to read is close to the shower and the sink, I never did cause I didnt wanna have the the book ruined.
Finally, a few weeks ago, I found the perfect reading and wetting...
I got a few old (well, not rrreally old) watches:
This one is from my mom, I think it to be from the early sixties, but I'm not sure.
I can't even tell if it still works, I haven't tried it in a while (doesn't fit my wrist anyway). It's hand winded.
This is from my mom as well, it's...
Congrats to your great buys!
I got to admit I kinda envy you for the existence of "thrift shops". We don't really have that in Germany. Of course, there are some tiny shops for used stuff, but they get less and less and the ones that still exist mostly sell modern fashion brands at high prices...
