Hooded dryer dried wet sets or sleeping in a wet set overnight; which

I think a combination of both works best. I like to sleep in my set and then finish it off with about 10 minutes under the hood while I do my make-up. I think if I tried only drying it under the hood I'd be there for hours. :)

    Ladies show us your best.

No dress find from me today, but I felt like this my first "proper" hat deserved to be shown off in all its glory! (I was excited to get asked to be photographed at the fair I purchased it from.)

    Is Swearing a Vice?

I'm desperately trying to cut out the swearing. Not because of the effect it has on others, but one finds that when a single sentence includes three f-bombs...swearing in real situations doesn't quite pack the same punch.

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Just started, and nearly finished, my first ever "proper" sewing project- a wonderful pencil skirt from "Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing." It's coming so much easier to me than I thought, but I'm so glad to have enrolled in a 10 week course on dressmaking anyway! This will definitely be the...

Totally loving both Miss Fairchild's and Lenore's new dos! Lenore: I'm having similar pin curl woes. I can't seem to set my hair wet with pin curls but when I do a sponge roller set the first day and then pin curl on day 3 I feel a bit like Miss Monroe herself. Also, agreed, Lottabody is pure...

Oh, thank you! So, so happy! Part of that may be getting some awesome uni work back, but it may all be awesome hair day giddiness! Do it!

Thank you! I can't stop staring in the mirror. I just got out the measuring tape- they're all around 6 inches! :)

Oh, haircut of my dreams, you've finally arrived... Middy after a lovely heated roller set by the hairdresser. Feeling very Liz Taylor! Surprisingly all the layers were perfectly easy to set in sponge rollers despite initial panic at it being too short and fiddly for my fingers...

    Husband doesn't like 1950's look...

Oooh, this is a tough situation. While I ultimately dress the way I do because it makes me happy, I can only imagine that if my hubby didn't reinforce it positively, or spoke about it negatively, I'd probably abandon most obvious efforts. Having said that...have you mentioned this to him? Does...

    The Middy Thread

Today I went to a local salon, that prides itself on vintage, wedding up-dos, with diagrams and "directions for the modern hairdresser" in hand! Little did I know that I didn't need to worry, the hairdresser turned out to be my hair soul mate, completely getting what I wanted, talking me through...

24 Rules For Gentlemen in 2014

What a lovely, lovely list! Some of the comments underneath were a bit disheartening, but it's really nice to read a modern update that not only includes a good dose of common sense, but also advice on how to treat your fellow human beings- rather than how to treat women so they'll sleep with...

Thinking about a tattoo, but is it what good girls did in the 1940's?

Well, plenty of "nice" and "decent" ladies and gentlemen do these days. Don't judge a book by its cover. I think what helps many people who don't "get" tattoos is to simply think of them as modern pieces of art. Granted I don't believe every tattoo can be considered artistic, but I believe the...

Haha! You're wild, Lenore! After I couldn't even section it myself properly I've decided to leave it to a professional. Armed with diagrams, info, chocolate and a massive tip for after if she does it properly! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thinking about a tattoo, but is it what good girls did in the 1940's?

Oh boy, I think the tattoo bug has bitten me once again. I just need to get up the courage and make 2014 the year I go for it. I keep forgetting that my shoulder blades are hardly ever exposed anyway, so it won't affect my work, the way I'm viewed etc

Perhaps silly question ladies, but when you're measuring the length of your layers where are you measuring from? I'm getting a middy cut in January (after talking myself out of cutting it myself) and am trying to figure out at which length I can still comfortably pin curl. However, I put a ruler...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

Last night was such a confidence boost for me. Hair properly done, 1930s inspired dress etc. I got lovely comments all night long, including a few ladies from tables near by coming over to congratulate me on how well my style suits me. It was very sweet. Sadly there was also some piggish...

Any idea how long a middy would have to be (shoulder length, chin, bit longer than chin) in order for me to get this kid of curl? In the photo I gathered my curls and pinned them up but I'm loving it so much that I'd really love to always have it this length. Also, has anybody saved C-Dot's...
